Treatment of ulcers

Many specialists of Gastroenterology study the most serious and wide-spread diseases of the digestive organs. One of its most important lines of research is studying new ways of diagnosting and treating ulcers. This is certainly needed, for world statistics shows that 7— 10 people out of every hundred are suffering from ulcers and their number is increasing.

The results of researches received in leading medical establishments gave the possibility to some skilled doctors to work out several own methods for treating patients. The doctors treat successfully the most patients suffering from stomach and duodenal ulcers.

They prefer to treat patients in an acute condition as in-patient, rather than on the out-patient. A well-planned course of treatment on in-patients reduces the number of operations. Special diets and various drugs are prescribed. With the use of drugs the damaged tissue of stomach is restored and the ulcer heals.

It is known that the treatment of ulcers is a very complicated business indeed, but with the help of the medical methods it is possible in most cases to take the ulcer heal. Frequently, however, this doesn't mean total recovery. Ulcers are a chronic disease and after a certain time following the healing more than half of the patients return for treatment. This is why everyone to be treated with ulcers as an in-patient is then registered as an out-patient at a polyclinic or other centre and remains under regular medical supervision. If necessary, such patients are sent to sanatoria or rest homes. Special diets must be kept by them.

But in spite of all that is being done to help in the social sphere, doctors will not feel they have done their duty untill they are able to effect a total recovery.
