Simple living
Simple living encompasses a number of different voluntary practices to simplify one's lifestyle. These may include reducing one's possessions or increasing self-sufficiency, for example. Simple living may be characterized by individuals being satisfied with what they need rather than want. Although asceticism generally promotes living simply and refraining from luxury and indulgence, not all proponents of simple living are ascetics. Simple living is distinct from those living in forced poverty, as it is a voluntary lifestyle choice. Adherents may choose simple living for a variety of personal reasons, such as spirituality, health, increase in quality time for family and friends, work-life balance, personal taste, frugality, or reducing personal ecological footprint and stress. Simple living can also be a reaction to materialism and conspicuous consumption.
How the wealthy lives
We have all heard the phrase “lifestyles of the rich and famous”. But what does it mean? Lifestyles of the rich and famous construes a lifestyle somewhat different form the ordinary. That being said, lifestyles of the rich and famous define the everyday actions, events and behaviors of a group of people who are not ordinary everyday citizens. For this group of people, the rich and famous, they just do what they have always done. While it may be different from what most of us do, those who live the lifestyles of the rich and famous move in circles unfamiliar to us. Lifestyles of the rich and famous people travel in a close knit society with little interaction with the normal day-to-day world. These people who are living lifestyles of the rich and famous have servants, drivers, cooks and gardeners. They don’t wait in line for theater tickets, have valets park their cars and fly in private planes. Some of the rich and famous can park their planes at their own houses so they can fly off somewhere whenever they choose to do so.
When we speak of the lifestyles of the rich and famous, we are talking about a small and generally well known population. These people who live lifestyles of the rich and famous can be found in Palm Beach, New York City, Houston, and Chicago. When lifestyles of the rich and famous people congregate, they all speak the same language. Lifestyles of the rich and famous people have resources that allow them to pretty much live as isolated from normal society as they desire. Lifestyles of the rich and famous has been immortalized with a TV show and a definition that is easy to recognize and hard to dent.
A vegetarian lifestyle
A vegetarian diet is one where no meats are eaten. A vegan diet refers to a stricter form of vegetarianism, which also includes eating no animal by-products such as honey or eggs. The reasons for embracing a vegetarian lifestyle are numerous. Some individuals have chosen to become vegetarians after facing health problems like heart conditions to cut back on unhealthy processed foods and those high in saturated fats, which can further damage the heart. Others simply wanted to improve their overall health and nutrition to increase longevity. For athletes the ability to enhance performance and gain more energy has also been listed as a reason to try a vegetarian lifestyle. Many famous people who have gone vegetarian, however, do not do so for health reasons, instead, they are opposed to animal cruelty and consider the processes used by factories to slaughter animals for food as barbaric and no different from torture.
Throughout history, many famous people have been said to adopt vegetarian lifestyles including political leader Benjamin Franklin and the philosopher Plato. For the most part, however, vegetarianism has remained outside of the mainstream. In recent years, however, the idea of a plant-based lifestyle has been getting a lot more attention. A large number of scientific studies have discussed the downsides of a meat-based diet and organizations such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have done much to educate celebrities and regular individuals about the benefits of becoming vegetarian. As more books, restaurants, and websites devoted to the lifestyle have risen, many celebrities have begun embracing the lifestyle and further spreading its popularity.
Many of the celebrities who have embraced vegetarianism cite the many positive health benefits they have experienced from the lifestyle choice including feeling more active about what they put into their bodies, clearing up skin conditions and dropping excessive weight. The high profile lifestyles of today’s vegetarians continue to help promote an increasing interest and trend towards adopting a plant-based lifestyle.
