4. Activity 4. Read the dialogue “Asking the way” and learn it by heart.

B- It`s Petrovskaya Street.

1. Excuse me. Can you tell me the way to the Kievskaya Hotel please?

2. Certainly. Go straight ahead two blocks. At the T-junction turn right. Then take the second road to the left. The hotel is on the right.

1. Excuse me. Can you tell me the way to the library?

2. Come out of the room, turn right. Take the first turn to the right and go upstairs to the third floor. The library will be on the left.

1. Are there any supermarkets nearby?

2. Come out of the building and turn left. Go straight ahead to Pushkinskaya underground station. Take a train to Sovetskaya underground. Go up and turn left. Go straight ahead about 100 metres. The Billa supermarket is on the left.

1. How long does it take to get to the supermarket from here?

2. It takes 10 minutes by metro or 30 minutes on foot.

5. Activity 5. Build up your conversation.

1. How can I get to the Kharkov Hotel? -The hotel is opposite the university.

2. Is there a bus to the hostel? - Yes, there is.

3. Is there a bus stop nearby? -There is a bus stop in front of the supermarket.

4. Where is Western Union Bank? -The bank is in Symskaya Street.

5. At the crossroads turn right. Western Bank is the tall white building on the left.

6. In case you want to go out and enjoy yourself, there is a café in Pushkinskaya Street next to the underground station.

7. Go down Symskaya Street two blocks.

8. Take the lift to the seventh floor.

9. Go down the street about 200 metres.

10. I can give you a lift.

6. Activity 6. Ask the questions to find out:

- how you can get from the university to the railway station;

- how to get to the bus station on foot;

- the way to the supermarket;

- the way to the restaurant;

- how to get to the cinema by car;

- how long it takes to get to the shop.

7. Activity 7. Use the profile “Asking the way” as a draft for your own profile.

A- Can you tell the way to Manhattan Bank?

B- Well, come out of the building and turn right. Go straight ahead. At the T-junction turn left. Then you are in Symskaya. Manhattan Bank is on the left.

A- Thank you very much indeed. Can you tell me the way to a restaurant from Manhattan Bank please?

B- Yes, it`s very easy. Come out of the bank and turn left. At the square turn right. The restaurant is on the left.

A- That`s useful. Are there any shops near the square?

B- Yes, there is a long chain of shops opposite the restraunt.

Criteria for evaluation are:

• множественное число существительных;

• вопросы и ответы по теме “Как пройти”;

• ключевые слова, как остановить незнакомца на улице и задать ему вопрос.
