Us armed forces organization

Army (Land Forces)

An army is a large organized group of people who are armed and trained to fight on land in a war

Navy

A country's navy consists of the people it employs to fight at sea, and the ships they use

Air Force

The Air Force is the branch of a nation's armed services that conducts military operations in the air

Marine Corps

A branch of the U.S. armed services (part of the U.S. Navy), founded in 1775 and trained to operate on land and at sea

Coast Guard

A branch of the U.S. armed forces, under the Department of Transportation since 1967, responsible for the enforcement of maritime law and for the protection of life and property at sea. In time of war, or at the direction of the president, the Coast Guard serves as part of the U.S. Navy

Soldiers marching or fighting on foot; foot soldiers collectively

Us armed forces organization

The Armed Forces of the USA consist of the Army (Land Forces), Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard including their Regular and Reserve components.

The Army is responsible for preparing forces for combat operations on land (Land Forces). The Navy and Marine Corps are responsible for preparing forces for combat operations at sea. The Air Force is responsible for preparing forces for combat operations in the air.

The Army is one of the main armed services of the Armed Forces. The Army includes different arms and services. There are about twenty arms and services in the Army.

Arms are those units that directly participate in combat. They are as follows: Infantry, Artillery and Armour. Their main mission is combat and combat support.

The Corps of Engineers, the Signal Corps and the Military Police Corps are referred to both arms and services because they have units with fighting duties.

The main services are Ordnance Corps, Chemical Corps, Army Medical Service, Transportation Corps and others. The main mission of services is combat service support.

Under the Constitution of the United States the President is commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces. He is assisted by several agencies. The two most important agencies are the National Security Council and the Department of Defence. The Department of Defence is headed by the civilian Secretary of Defence.
