Для виконання контрольної роботи необхідно засвоїти такі теми з граматики:

  • Форми теперішнього (Present), минулого (Past) та майбутнього (Future) часів групи Perfect;

  • Значення та вживання дієприкметників минулого часу (Past Participle).

Завдання 1. Прочитайте та зробіть письмовий переклад тексту.

Ukraine. Its Geographical Location

The independence of Ukraine was proclaimed on the 24-th of August, 1991. Now it is a sovereign state.

The country is situated in the south-eastern part of Central Europe. Its territory extends 900 km from north to south and 1,300 km from east to west. The total area of Ukraine is 603,700 sq. km. Its population is about 47 million.

Ukraine borders on Russia, Byelorussia, Moldova, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. In the south it is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

The main territory of Ukraine is flat, and mountains make up 5% of the rest of it: the Carpathian Mountains in the west and the Crimean Mountains in the south. The main rivers are the Dnieper River, the Dniester, the Bug, the Donets and others.

The climate of Ukraine greatly depends on its geographical position. The Carpathians and the Crimean Mountains protect the country from the bitter winds. The climate along the coasts of the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov is much warmer than the climate of the rest of the country. The climate of the Crimea is subtropical. The rest of Ukraine’s territory has a moderately continental climate. The fertile soils and generally good climate are favourable for agriculture.

Ukraine is a well-developed industrial country. Its main minerals are iron, manganese, ore, coal, natural gas, oil, salt and others. Ukraine’s industry includes metallurgical, machine-building, fuel and power industries. It is a producer of chemicals and agricultural raw materials. One of the most important branches of national economy is the power industry.

Ukraine produces planes and ocean-lines, tractors and combiners, excavators and cars, up-to-date instruments and equipment, electronic microscopes and TV sets, computers and synthetic diamonds.

Ukrainian scientists make a valuable contribution to the development of world science. They have solved the main problems of automation of production processes and electric welding. They have created new improved machines and mechanisms. They do important research work in biology, medicine, nuclear physics. Many Ukrainian scientists have been awarded State prizes. They are members of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and academies of foreign states.

Ukraine has very rich and varied culture and history. It has many professional theatres and Philharmonic Societies. There are a lot of public libraries and state museums in Ukraine. Ukrainian books are exported to more than 100 countries of the world. The best works of Ukrainian literature and theatrical, musical, choreographical and decorative arts are known in all parts of the world.

Ukraine is one of the founding members of the UNO and takes part in the work of many international organizations. It is visited by delegations, groups of specialists, art companies, sport teams and tourists from different countries of the world.

The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv, its political, cultural, economical, scientific, industrial centre; the seat of Ukrainian parliament.

Завдання 2. Перекладіть на українську мову наступні слова та вирази із тексту. Будьте готові до письмового контролю лексики.

Завдання 4. Перепишіть ці речення, підкресліть в кожному з них дієприкметник та перекладіть їх українською мовою.

Завдання 5. Прочитайте та перекладіть текст. Спираючись на інформацію подану в тексті, вирішіть, які ствердження відповідають дійсності(+), а які містять невірну інформацію(-).
