1. Is Mr. Hall in yet? I'll go and see. 2.1 have an ap- pointment with him. At least I think so. 3. You made an appointment for me. You remember. 4. How do people live in other countries? I'd like to find out. 5. Can you write a good English essay? It remains to be seen. 6. Can you work hard enough on your own? Your progress depends on it. 7. What do universities teach? Whom do they admit? That is for them to decide. 8. Your father's condition is very serious. Do you real- ize it? I hope you do. 9. I want to ask two questions. First, what is wisdom? Упражнение 7. Образуйте из предлагаемых пар пред- ложений сложноподчиненные предложения с при- даточными дополнительными или предложения с инфинитивными оборотами.

1. The Minister will attend our meeting tomorrow. He has agreed. 2. Can we start the meeting half an hour later? He hopes so. 3. We should wait for him. He expects that. 4. His car will bring him straight here. His secretary will arrange it. 5. Where should the driver go? Does he know? 6. The secretary should make a note of our address. Please remind the secre- tary. 7. We shall expect the Minister at 7.30. Please remind the minister. 8. Can he stay till 9 o'clock? We shall try to persuade him. 9. Could we offer him a drink first? Do you suggest that? 10. Will he want to make a speech? I suppose so. 11. He is a good speaker. People consider he is. 12. When should one stop talk- ing? Some speakers have no idea.

Определительные придаточные предложения Attributive Clauses

Attributive Clauses выполняют функции опре- деления в сложном предложении и вводятся союзными словами: who, which, that, whose, when, where, why, how.

Если относительные местоимения which и that являются подлежащим определительного при- даточного предложения, их нельзя опустить.

Упражнение 8. Переведите на русский язык.
