Данное время представляет собой длительный вид настоящего времени.

ОБРАЗОВАНИЕ

Present Continuous образуется при помощи вспомогательного глагола to be в форме Present Simple (am, is, are) и причастия I (Participle I) смыслового глагола. Причастие I образуется путем прибавления к основе глагола окончания -ing.

УПОТРЕБЛЕНИЕ

1. Для обозначения действия, происходящего в момент речи. На этот момент указывают следующие слова и словосочетания (time-indicators):

now The kids are watching a cartoon on TV now.

right now Right now George is talking on the phone.

at this moment Mr. Brown is having dinner at the moment.

2. Для обозначения временного действия, происходящего в настоящий отрезок времени (не обязательно именно в момент речи), со словами:

today The team is playing very well today.

this week They are taking exams this week.

this month She is working in London this year.

Andrew is workingtoo hard this term.

Nelly is studying in the university.

She is writing her diploma now.

I am slimming now.

3. Для обозначения часто повторяющегося действия с оттенком раздражения и / или недовольства, со словами:

always Why are you always losing your things?

constantly He is constantly talking about his car!

continuously I’m continuously making this mistake!

4. Для обозначения изменяющейся ситуации (ситуации в процессе развития).

My English is getting better.

Mary is putting on weight.

It’s getting colder and colder.

The population of the world is increasing.

5. Для обозначения заранее запланированного действия, которое совершится в ближайшем будущем. Употребляется чаще всего с глаголами движения (to move, to arrive, to leave, to go, etc), при этом в предложении обязательно должны быть либо наречия, указывающие на будущее, например tomorrow, soon, tonight, next week, etc, либо это должно быть понятно из контекста.

I’m seeing Rachel tonight.

They are leaving Kiev next week.

We are leaving tomorrow.

I’m going out tonight.

I’m playing tennis with Ann. We are going to meet at 6.

6. Сочетание the Present Continuous глагола to go с инфинитивом другого глагола передает намерение совершить действие или уверенность в его совершении. На русский язык переводится словосочетанием “собираться что-либо сделать”.

I am going to work this summer.

He is going to learn this poem by heart.

Обратите внимание, что глаголы, которые можно использовать в the Present Continuous, обозначают действие (они называются dynamic verbs). Но существуют глаголы, которые обозначают состояние (stative verbs) и не могут быть употреблены во временах группы Continuous. Список этих глаголов представлен в учебнике И.В.Змиевой «Practical English Grammar Handbook» на стр. 24.
