TEXT A

ABOUT MY FAMILY AND MYSELF

My name is Oleg Petrov. I was born in Dobrush, a small town which is situated near Gomel. I am 17. This year I’ve finished school. Now I live in Gomel with my parents.

My family is large: Father, Mother, Grandfather, Grandmother, two sisters and a brother. We are a very happy family and I love all of them dearly.

My father is a doctor. He works in a hospital. He is very busy. He has a lot of patients and does all he can to help them. My mother is an accountant. She works at an office. She has a lot of work to do too. Still she finds time to look after the house and to take care of all of us.

My brother is a student. He studies at the Belarusian State University. Every day he attends lectures and classes. In January and June he takes examinations. He gets good and excellent marks in all the subjects. When he graduates from the University he will work as a teacher. Both my sisters are schoolgirls.

My grandfather is retired. He gets an old-age pension. My grandmother is still in good health. She does most of the cooking.

We help our parents about the house: we wash dishes, go shopping, etc.

Answer the following questions:

1 What is your name?

2 Where are you from?

3 How old are you?

4 When and where were you born?

5 When did you finish school?

6 How many people are there in your family?

7 What does your father (mother) do?

8 Ноw old is your grandfather?

9 Is your grandmother retired?

10. How old is your brother (sister)?

TEXT B

Who Is Who?

The Forests are an English family. they live in a big hose on a farm near Brimstead. There are four of them: John Forest, his wife Marian and their two children: Richard and Freddy.

John is a farmer. He works hard on his farm. Marian looks after the house and the family.

Their son Richard goes to Brimstead every day: he works in an office there. Freddy goes to school in Brimstead. He is quite a clever pupil, but he doesn’t like maths.

Every week Marian goes to the shops in Brimstead. They have a car but Marian doesn’t drive.

In the afternoon Marian usually sits in her room and does some sewing. Sometimes she visits Mrs Preston who lives next door. Mrs. Preston gives her tea and cakes and tells her all the news.

At about four Freddy comes home from school, has his tea and then plays in the garden for an hour or two.

The forests go to bed early. Marian listens to the radio in the evening. She likes plays and music and she is also fond of reading. John doesn’t like any of these; he talks to other farmers about work on the farm or just sits and think about it. Sometimes he goes down to the pub and drinks a glass or two of beer. But this evening John is listening to a radio play about some people living on a farm. “Oh, dear”, says Marian,” nothing happens in our home!”

TEXT C

Read the following text and retell about Mr. Scott’s family.

– Your name is George Scott, isn't it?

– Yes, it is, I am an electronic engineer. I live and work in New York. And what's you name?

– My name is Peter Brook. I am an editor. I live and work in San Francisco.

– You are married, aren't you?

– Oh, yes. I am married and I've got two daughters.

What a coincidence! I've got two daughters, too: Helen and Mary. What are your daughters' names?

– They are Susan and Jane. Susan is ten years old and Jane is eight. They both go to a private school. Do your daughters go to school?

– Not yet. Helen is five years old and Mary is three.

– They are at home, aren't they?

– Sure. My wife Joan doesn't work now. She runs the house and looks after the children. She is a designer. She adores her trade and dreams of going to her office again. But she can't for the time being.

– It's only natural. Nowadays very few women are satisfied with being housewives. My wife, whose name is Nancy, is a teacher of Russian. She works at a college.

– Do you have any brothers or sisters?

– Unfortunately not. I am the only child in the family. I've got a cousin who lives in Chicago. We are on friendly terms.

– I have got a sister. She is much younger than I am. She lives with our parents in Los Angeles. I've seen very little of her of late.

Los Angeles is a beautiful city. My aunt lives there and I visit her from time to time.

– It's a long time since I went to Los Angeles.

– Too bad!
