TEXT B

Mr. Going-to-Do

Mr. Carrot lives near Mr. and Mrs. Lavrovs. Mr. and Mrs. Lavrovs call Mr. Carrot Mr. “Going-to-Do” because he always says that he is going to do something and never does it.

Every Saturday Mr. Carrot comes to the Lavrovs. He always says that he’s going to do something. “I’m going to wash my car today.” Mr. Lavrov usually says, “Are you?” He knows that Mr. Carrot isn’t going to wash his car. Mr. Lavrov usually says, “Well, excuse me, Ben, I’m going to do some work.”

Then Mr. Carrot goes to the kitchen. He knows that Mrs. Lavrova always makes cherry pie on Saturday morning. He says to Mrs. Lavrova, “I’m going to paint my kitchen today.” Mrs. Lavrova says, “Are you , Ben?”

Then Mr. Carrot sits down at the kitchen table and Mrs. Lavrova puts some cherry pie in front of him. “Well, thank you,” he says. “I’m not going to eat it because I’m going (to go) on a diet.” And he always eats the cherry pie.

The Lavrovs know that Mr. Carrot isn’t going to wash his car, and he isn’t going to paint his kitchen. They sometimes say to their son, “Are you going to do something? Then do it. Don’t be Mr. “Going-to-Do.”

TEXT C

My Working Day

I study at the University of Transport. I want to be an engineer. Our academic year begins in September. The full course of studies here lasts for five years. We have lectures and tutorials every day. We have our classes in the morning. I attend lectures regularly. I do not miss my lectures and seminars.

On week-days I get up at 7 o'clock in the morning. I do my morning exercises, make my bed, clean my teeth, wash and dress.

I live in the hostel. It is not far from the Institute and it takes me only 20 minutes to get there. Our lessons begin at half past eight. I go to the classroom. I take my books and note-books out of my bag and put them on the desk. I usually sit at the window. We have three lectures and practical lessons every day. We work hard.

After classes I usually go to the students' canteen and have dinner. And then I go to the library where I stay till six or seven o'clock. I usually do my homework in the reading-hall of our library.

I come home from the Institute and have a short rest. I read books and newspapers, go out for a walk, visit my friends, or just watch TV programmes. Once a week I go to the cinema.

On week-days I go to bed at eleven o'clock.
