Dear Ms Jameson:

SUBJECT: WARRANTY REFUND ON GASSAVER TIRE

Please honor the warranty and issue a refund for one GasSaver radial tire that was purchased for my company car at Alliance Tire Center on September 5.

This whitewall tire cost $139.13 and carried a warranty for 42,000 miles. It had only 14,000 miles of wear when trouble developed. On a business trip to Albany recently, I noticed that the tire made a strange sound. When I stopped the car and inspected the tire, it had an ugly bulge protruding from its rim. A service station attendant said that the tread had separated from the tire body. I was forced to purchase a replace­ment tire at considerably more than the price we paid for the GasSaver tire.

When I returned the GasSaver tire to Alliance, it would not honor the warranty. Alli­ance said the tire was damaged by “road hazards” and that refunds could not be made.

My company generally purchases GasSaver tires, and we have been pleased with their quality and durability. Enclosed are copies of the sales invoice and the tire war­ranty for the tire in question. Also enclosed is a receipt showing that the defective tire was returned to Alliance Tire Company.

I am confident that you will honor my request for a refund of the purchase price of $139.13 prorated for 14,000 miles of wear.

Dear Mrs Billingham,

Thank you for your letter of 25 July sending us a cheque for £200 on account and asking for an extension of time in which to pay the balance.

As your account is now more than 2 months overdue we find your present cheque quite insufficient. It is hardly reasonable to expect us to wait a further month for the balance, particularly as we invoiced the goods at a specially low price which was mentioned to you at the time.

We sympathise with your difficulties but need hardly remind you that it is in our customers' long-term interests to pay their accounts promptly so as to qualify for discounts and at the same time build a reputation for financial reliability.

In the circumstances we hope that in your own interests you will make arrangements to clear your account without further delay. We look forward to receiving your cheque for the balance on your account within the next few days.
