TEXT I. ALTAI TERRITORY

The Altai territory is situated in the south-east of Western Siberia. It borders on Kazakhstan, Novosibirsk and Kemerovo regions and the republic of Altai. People have been living on this territory for many ages. Ancient Mongols named this land ―altyn‖ which means ―golden‖.

Altai is famous for the beauty of its nature, unique flora and fauna. Among mineral resources there are rich deposits of ores, soda and coal. Altai is famous for the unique vases made by Kolyvan stone-masters. The most famous piece of art is ―Queen of Vases‖, kept in the State

Hermitage, St. Petersburg.
