Grammar Focus
V-ing формы и их перевод на русский язык:
1. V-ing – прилагательное, образованное от причастия настоящего времени (что делающий?). Позиция - перед существительным.
Radio communication requires the use of both transmitting and receiving equipment – радиосвязь предполагает использование как передающего, так и принимающего оборудования (прилагательное, образованное о причастия).
2. V-ing –глагол в одной из временных форм Continuous. Переводим личной формой глагола.
These specialists are designing a new control system for railways –эти специалисты проектируют новую систему контроля для железных дорог (глагол в личной форме в Present Continuous).
The scientists were carrying out the experiment when the fire started – ученые проводили эксперимент, когда начался пожар (глагол в личной форме в Past Continuous).
3. V-ing – причастие настоящего времени. Переводим причастным оборотом (что делающий?), деепричастным оборотом (что делая?) или придаточным предложением с союзами который/которая и т.п.
Working on the problem of radio communication the scientists obtained the excellent results – работая над проблемой радиосвязи, ученые получили отличные результаты (деепричастный оборот).

4. V-ing - герундий. Переводим на русский язык именем существительным/инфинитивом/деепричастием/глаголом в личной форме, когда герундий с относящимися к нему словами переводится придаточным предложением. Такие придаточные предложения часто начинаются словами для того, чтобы; то, что (чтобы) и др.
