On the Flying Scotsman

The train to Edinburgh was waiting at platform N1 of King’s Cross Station, London. In the window-seat of a first-class coach young Mr.Bentley, the owner of a big store, was looking at his time-table. He was feeling a little bored when suddenly a beautiful blonde passed by. The dress she wore was of bright yellow silk, the gold chain she had round her neck shone like her golden hair. While the young man was thinking about the best way to approaching her, the girl suddenly turned to him:

“Would you be so kind and keep this seat for me?”

“It’s a pleasure,” he hastily replied.

“Thank you,”, whispered the girl with a smile in which he read the promise of a pleasant journey. “Thank you. I’ll be back in a minute.” She got out of the train, probably to fetch her luggage.

Mr.Bentley was in heaven. This was one of those chances one reads about in books, but which seldom happens in real life.

His dream-girl appeared again, but she was not alone. She was with an old lady who moved very slowly. The time to get to the seat seemed endless. When finally the old lady had sat down, the young girl kissed her and quickly left the coach. As the train was moving out of the station, she waved a friendly good-bye from the platform.
