IV. Read and translate the poem

Children Learn What They Live By Dorothy Law Nolte, Ph.D.

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn. If children live with hostility, they learn to fight. If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive. If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves. If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy. If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy. If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty. If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence. I f children live with tolerance, they learn patience. If children live with praise, they learn appreciation. If children live with acceptance, they learn to love. If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves. If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal. If children live with sharing, they learn generosity. If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness. If children live with fairness, they learn justice. If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect. If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them. If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

2 . Reading

Look at the title of the text. What does it mean? Read and check.

Gadgets come and go and most of them don’t have a very long life. The Internet, however, seems to be here to stay. The Word Wide Web is now the largest information resource in the world and teenagers can find more or less anything they want there. They can download music and films, watch TV, listen to the radio, send email, and even shop online.

E-learning, which simply means learning on line, is also now becoming one of the most popular uses of the Internet. There are many language schools offering courses online and you can also get a university degree or other certificate. E-learning offers an endless range of subjects from gardening to computer programming. You can even learn the fundamentals of scuba diving online.

Almost anyone can do a course, whether you are a teenager, a housewife, or even if you are disabled. You are usually free to choose your own timetable and you can work at your own pace. This means fewer people will give up their studies because they can’t combine studies and work. You don’t need to worry about paying for transport to go to classes either. Some people think that online education could well be part of the solution to global pollution. If there are fewer people driving to schools there will be fewer traffic jams and less pollution especially during rush hours.

E-learning is truly a revolution in education. Now, people from all walks of life have the opportunity to improve their level of education and consequently their lives. E-learning must surely have a great future ahead of it.
