The balance of payments include the value of goods and services the country is exporting and importing. Trade figures show the trade balance. Visible exports and imports are of physical goods. Invisibles are payments for services such as insurance and tourism. If exports exceed imports there is a trade surplus. If not, there is a trade deficit or trade gap.
