У III ос. після -ss, -sh, -ch, -tch, -x, -o + -es: tells; goes, does [gouz; dΛz] (після дзвінких, голосних — [z]); works, wants (після глухих — [s]); kisses, washes, mixes, teaches, matches (після шиплячих — [iz]).

→ -пригол. + Y + -S → -IES: fly — flies. → -голосн. + Y + -S → -YS: plays, says [sæz].

Якщо присудок є складним, одна частина якого виражена модальним дієсл. (may, can, must), закінчення –S не вживається: She must do it. He may come in.

TIME EXPRESSIONS (обставини часу) ― ПЕРЕД дієсл.,/ ПІСЛЯ дієсл. TO BE/допоміжного дієслова DO: usually, often, frequently, regularly, normally, occasionally, as a rule, sometimes, rarely, seldom, never, ever, always, generally… E.g.: He always comes, I am always late.

В кінці/на початку речення: every day (week, month, year), in the morning/spring, daily.
