4. Fill in the prepositions where necessary:
London has been swinging again … a few years now. Ever since Vanity Fair decided it was ‘the coolest, hottest city… the world”, commentators have been falling … over themselves to pay their dues to cool Britannia.
The capital’s reinvention was spurred … a new generation … ‘Brits’ … the fashion, architecture, arts and culinary worlds, who brought those traditional London qualities – cheek, inventiveness and attitude – to bear … their chosen spheres. Londoners are also going … one … their occasional periods … feeling rich – the property-owning ones … least, as they have contentedly watched their houses and flats double and treble … value since the early 1990s. Outsiders – first-jobbers and tourists … suffering currencies – may feel distinctly less affluent here.
That combination of wealth and design flair has given rise … a new generation of fashionable bars, studios, hairdressers’ and shops /it’s often hard to tell them apart/ which are elbowing … the musty old pubs. Restaurants are catering … the most discerning diner who must have Thai food … an Italian twist. Homegrown designers such as Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen have spurred … newer young designers, whose work can found … shops like Browns, and the boutiques … Brick Lane.
