connected with steam and gas boilers, as well as heating engines, power blocks and technology of gas burning.
Now special attention is paid to such subjects as boilers and power plants, heat engines, gas burning technology,
electric machines and so on. After graduation from the uni-
versity I’d like either to work according to my specialty or to
continue my education as a postgraduate student (or abroad).
My specialty is very important and very much claimed in the
modern world. It is one of five industries our President has
paid special attention to.

Hi, my name is Emily. I am a student of the University
"RUT", studying innovation management.
Innovation management is the discipline of managing processes in innovation. It can be used to develop both product
and organizational innovation. The focus of innovation management is to allow the organization to respond to an external
or internal opportunity and use its creative efforts to introduce
new ideas, processes or products. What is important, innovation management is not relegated to R&D. It involves workers at every level in contributing creatively to a company development,
manufacturing, and marketing by utilizing appropriate
innovation management tools. Management can trigger and
deploy the creative juices of the whole workforce towards the
continuous development of a company. Innovative management is very difficult. Our main objective in the management
of innovation - the promotion of the innovation process, forecasting possible
obstacles and finding ways to overcome them. Exploitation of
ideas and their correct use in the commercial area leads to innovations. They are an essential requirement for a successful
business strategy. The correct use of knowledge and ideas are
11

major challenges for management. Many ideas are inaccurately valued, many possible innovations are nor recognized neither brought into the market. This is where the innovation
manager takes over. From the handling of information and the
coordination of the business field's activities, up to innovation, are the innovation manager's most important tasks. This
is the task of the innovation manager.
What am I going to do after university? In what way
of innovation management will I work? There is a surprisingly wide range to choose from. For example, I could work for
a big international company, run my own International Business Research Agency or continue learning innovation technologies to be a scientist. I would like to work in a big company, which implements the numerous projects in the architectural design, construction, reconstruction and repair of a
wide range of objects. There I will manage innovation projects and coordinate work of subordinates.

The profession of an engineer
Industry and technic constitute an important aspect of
our life. Machines produce all things that are thought to be
benefits of civilization simplifying people’s daily duties –
furniture, office, supplies, and medicaments. Moreover, nowadays machines are irreplaceable by themselves: it is impossible to imagine the modern world without home appliances,
computers, mobile phones, cars, and trains. Even city buildings have changed during last centuries: they have become
more functional, laconic in design and comfortable. Glass and
concrete, elevators, heating and water supply have made them
suitable for living or work of thousands of people.
However, these achievements would not exist without
their creators - еngineers. This profession is very ancient:
great inventors of the pats (Archimedes, Leonardo da Vinci,
12

or Galileo) doubtlessly were engineers, because they developed various machines, devices, and constructions. Military
engineers making projects of siege machines also were in
demand for many centuries; later, technical progress made the
profession of a civil engineer useful and popular as well.
Different specialists of engineering are responsible for
different spheres: there are building, transport, radio engineers. As for me, I study at the university of transport. It
seems to me that this activity is especially significant in modern world because of the rapid development of Railways.
Creating high-speed trains and railways trаcks for it, increasing traffic, developing modern, ecofriendly and economical
materials for creating rolling stock. The railway, like veins on
the human body, entangles the whole world, so railway engineers have always been valued, are valued and will always be
valued.
Text 9
Railway engineer is a specialist who designs rail-
ways, interchanges, bridges and tunnels as well as organizes
their construction, maintenance and repair. The Russian railway network needs constant updating and repair as the volume of cargo transportation between the regions of the country is constantly growing. This implies the repair and reconstruction of existing roads, the construction of new lines of
communication that meet modern requirements. A communication engineer can work in design organizations, offices and
construction sites located in various regions of the country.
Design work is carried out at the preparatory stage using special computer programs. At construction sites, the engineer
organizes the work, monitors their implementation and compliance with the project. At the initial stage, the young specialist works under the guidance of an experienced engineer,
mastering the practical secrets of the profession. To advance
13

through the ranks with an upgrade an engineer must obtain a
master's degree. Further career steps are facility manager,
construction manager.

tions and the jobs you have already had. Normally, there are

are going to an interview – a meeting with people you are
hoping to work for – you will probably find in the office other
applicants (someone who applies for a job) or candidates
(someone who is competing with other people for a particular
job). And each of them will also be an interviewee, i. e. an
applicant who is asked to come for an interview.

company.
