Journalism and Mass Communication
Journalism and mass communication are two interrelated and overlapping fields of study and practice that deal with producing and disseminating information and messages to a large and diverse audience. They significantly impact the society, culture, politics, and economy of the world. Journalism and mass communication have the following functions:
Informing and educating the public about the events, issues, and ideas that affect their lives and interests.
Entertaining and engaging the public with the stories, characters, and emotions that appeal to their senses and feelings.
Persuading and influencing the public with the opinions, arguments, and messages that shape their attitudes and behaviours.
Empowering and mobilizing the public enabling them to express and assert their rights and interests.
Journalism can be stated as “the activity or profession of writing for newspapers, magazines, or news websites or preparing news to be broadcast” (Oxford
English Dictionary). It has a long and rich history, and some of the pioneers and innovators of journalism are Benjamin Franklin, Joseph Pulitzer, and Walter Cronkite.
Journalism also follows certain criteria and standards such as timeliness, relevance, proximity, prominence, impact, conflict, novelty, and human interest. It also employs various methods and techniques of reporting such as hard news, soft news, investigative reporting, feature reporting, opinion reporting, and specialized reporting.

Mass communication can be defined as “the study of how people and entities relay information through mass media to large segments of the population at the
same time” (Encyclopedia Britannica).
Some of the features of journalism and mass communication are:
Public service and social responsibility to inform, educate, and empower the
public and to uphold the values of democracy, freedom, and justice.
Diversity and plurality of the audience and the sources of information and
messages.
Creativity and innovation of methods, techniques, tools, and technologies.
The scope of journalism is wide and diverse as journalism covers a wide range of topics, issues, and fields.

The Internet is packed with websites. About 175 new websites go live every minute, adding to this vast digital space. Websites have become essential for businesses, individuals, and organizations to connect with people, share information, and sell products or services. They can be grouped into different types, each kind of website serves a different purpose and objective to accomplish.
There are different types of web-sites:
1. E-commerce websites.
E-commerce websites are online stores where individuals and businesses can easily buy and sell products and services on the Internet. To provide a seamless experience to the user, an e-commerce website ensures: secure transaction of payments, personal organization and display of products, stock tracking.
2. Business Websites.
Business websites are powerful digital platforms that showcase a company's services, products, and adhering values, helping them to establish expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness (EAT) with potential clients. Businesses use their websites to create a strong brand image and improve their online presence with smart SEO (search engine optimization) strategies.
3. Blog website.
Blog websites are one of the most powerful tools where one can share ideas and expertise to help build a community around your content on your niche and drive traffic to other platforms. It offers the feature of regular content updates, discussions and sharing topics. In blogs with multimedia content one presents the idea or thought in short to gather the interest of the reader and use the videos and podcasts as more consumable media to educate. This makes blogging a valuable strategy in today's digital landscape.
4. Portfolio Websites.
Portfolio websites help individuals and businesses to showcase their work and achievements, highlight unique skills and expertise in a particular field to attract new opportunities and clients. Modern portfolio websites have seen the use of curated home pages with high-resolution images, minimalist but captivating design, and video or animated backgrounds to enhance potential clients' engagements.
