Radio Journalism
Radio was the first broadcast medium. Radio broadcast journalism is the field of journalism that covers the reporting and broadcasting of news and current affairs over the radio, the latest music or advertising.
Radio is a quick and easy way to update your knowledge on the news, without any research or effort needed as you simply just listen.
Radio news programs were first developed in the 1920s, and they quickly became popular. Radio journalists work in a variety of settings, from small local stations to large national networks.
The radio medium has a series of advantages over television and the written press:
immediate monitoring of the news;
ease of conveying ideas, and facilitating the exchange of views;
stimulates imagination, not giving images.
The radio journalist must know how to search, select, value and elaborate information.
Radio broadcasting is a very important tool in journalism, as it allows journalists to quickly and easily communicate with large numbers of people.
There are two genres of radio broadcasting: the report and the interview.
The report is the richest genre used in radio information.
The interview is one of the journalistic genres that best adapts to the radio medium and one of the most effective for disseminating information. It is a genre widely used on the radio, it offers multiple expressive possibilities.
Live broadcasting is where the journalist speaks live on the radio, and the audience hears them in real-time.
Recorded broadcasting is where the journalist records his report beforehand, and then the radio station plays it back at a later time.
