ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ
ENGLISH FOR SENIOR STUDENTS – учебник,
предназначенный для студентов старших курсов Института
социологии и регионоведения, а также для студентов,
продолжающих изучение английского языка. Основной целью
учебника является развитие и совершенствование у студентов
навыков чтения текстов на английском языке. Поскольку при
системе двуязычного обучения английскому языку одним из
основных умений, формируемых у студентов, остаѐтся
перевод, то часть учебных материалов пособия направлена
также на формирование навыков перевода с английского
языка на русский и обратно.
Основу учебника составляют оригинальные тексты
тематического содержания, подобранные из аутентичных
источников.
Учебник состоит из 4 тематических разделов. В каждом
разделе есть задания, которые могут успешно применяться
при обучении студентов с разным уровнем знаний. Многие
упражнения нацелены на отработку навыков устной
и письменной речи, навыков владения всеми видами чтения
разных функциональных стилей. Во всех разделах средством
итогового контроля служат письменные задания, направленные на отработку и закрепление языковых навыков и
умений, представленных в данном разделе.
Данные упражнения могут выполняться в качестве
домашнего задания с последующей обязательной проверкой
в аудитории. Проверка этого задания является одним из
эффективных способов контроля, поскольку она позволяет
подробно разобрать все ошибки, выявить их причины,
определить удачные и неудачные варианты перевода.
Учебник также содержит грамматические разделы:

«Сослагательное наклонение» (условные типы предложений),
«Модальные глаголы»; справочный материал; коммуникативные задания, направленные на отработку навыков
корректного применения коммуникативных моделей в рамках
практических занятий.
Данный учебник можно использовать в процессе обучения
не только под руководством преподавателя, но и при организации самостоятельной работы студентов.
