Your friend and you have just got a new job. You work in different companies. Dis­cuss your work-life balance with your friend. Use the following information to ask and answer questions:
tell what you like best about your job (good salary, good opportunities for
promotion);
ask what your friend likes best about his/her job; you work 40 hours a week, this is usual for your position; ask if your friend is happy with his/her work-life balance; think of the main problem at work yourself; you like active leisure (think of some examples yourself); agree to visit some sports event with your friend next weekend.
Don’t forget to greet your friend in a proper way and use informal language when asking and replying.

Student A
You are a journalist from “The Financial Times” interviewing one of the most fa-
mous and successful Russian businessmen, Eugene Kaspersky. Use the following prompts to conduct your interview:
ask if Mr. Kaspersky travels a lot and why; ask about his main responsibilities; ask about the key to success in his business; ask about his leisure time; ask a question from yourself.
Don’t forget to greet, to thank and say goodbye to your interviewee in a proper way.

You are Eugene Kaspersky, one of the most famous and successful Russian busi­nessmen. A journalist from “The Financial Times” is going to interview you. Use the following information to answer the questions:
you travel 50% of your time, most of your offices are abroad; your main sales
and competitors are also outside Russia;
your main responsibility: to represent the company in meetings, trade shows,
presentations;
you see the key to success in your business in good relations with your col-
leagues; explain how you build these relations (the main idea is to be infor-
mal);
you prefer spending your leisure actively (going to the gym, skiing in winter,
going to the mountains in summer).

what you like about your job: friendly and helpful staff; your everyday activities: making reports (you think there is too much unneces-
sary paperwork), giving presentations (very stressful), visiting clients (too
much travel, not enough time for your family);
offer to go somewhere together.

Есть ли у нас какие-нибудь проблемы в работе? Конечно, у каждой ком­пании всегда есть проблемы. Иногда работники не хотят иметь никаких про­блем, но это невозможно.
Работа в нашей компании хорошо оплачиваемая, мы имеем высококаче­ственное оборудование на рабочих местах, мы можем построить хорошую ка­рьеру и получить продвижение по службе. Но наша работа влияет на наше здо­ровье.
Руководство не соглашается обсуждать проблемы с текучкой персонала. Они считают, что сотрудники достаточно продуктивны, а их работа не слишком напряжённая. Они также считают, что у нас слишком много работников и хотят уменьшить количество сотрудников, хотя мы постоянно просим нанять допол­нительный персонал, так как мы часто работаем по вечерам и в выходные. Как часто мы работам в выходные? Обычно один или два раза в месяц.

Решение проблем – это часть работы каждой компании. Например, работа в нашей компании очень напряжённая, потому что у нас много товаров и услуг, большой складской запас товаров, много поставщиков и несколько филиалов. Есть ли у наших клиентов какие-нибудь проблемы или жалобы? Конечно, они иногда возникают, потому что очень трудно удовлетворить всех клиентов. Со­трудники должны решать некоторые срочные вопросы немедленно.
Я считаю, что наше руководство недостаточно гибкое, а структура нашей фирмы слишком запутанная, поэтому мы тратим чересчур много ресурсов и имеем проблемы с задержкой доставки. Наше оборудование не очень надёжное, например, наши компьютеры часто дают сбой. Но наше руководство не счита­ет, что мы должны поменять стратегию. Хотят ли они знать потребности со­трудников? Я думаю, нет, и это может вызвать серьёзные конфликты.
