TO SPEAK, TO TALK

To speak (spoke, spoken) – осуществлять акт речевой деятельности, выражать мысли вслух, говорить: I must speak to him about it.

Семантическая структура глагола to speak содержит следующие значения:

1)осуществлять речевую деятельность: Speak up. Please;

2)говорить на каком-либо языке: Не speaks French fluently;

3)выступать с речью в официальной обстановке: The lecturer spoke about young Goethe.

To talk ˗ имеет менее формальное значение, предполагает беседу при наличии не менее двух человек. I like to talk about it to you, but I hate speaking in public.

ТО SAY, ТО TELL

Глаголы to say, to tell имеют практически одно значение ˗ «выразить словами, сообщить», соответствуют русскому глаголу «сказать». Разница в их употреблении обусловлена их различной дистрибуцией (окружением).

Глагол say сочетается с прямым дополнением и служит для введения прямой и косвенной речи.

Прямое дополнение, следующее за глаголям to say, может быть выражено:

1)предложением, представляющим прямую речь Не said: «I study two foreign languages»;

2)придаточным дополнительным предложением, вводимым с помощью союза that или бессоюзно: Не said that he studied two foreign languages. He said he studied two foreign languages;

3)словом или словосочетанием: He looked at me and said nothing.

Вряде случаев глагол to say может сопровождаться предложным косвенным дополнением со значением адресата речи (если ему предшествует прямое дополнение): «Good-bye», she said to me. I don't remember what she said to me. Глагол tell сочетается с кос-

венным дополнением со значением адресата речи: Не told me that he studied two foreign languages.
