Text 1. PROPERTIES OF METALS

Metals have different properties. There are chemical, physical and mechanical properties. The chemical properties are number of electrons, neutrons, protons, etc. The physical properties are metals’ density, weight, resistance, melting point and others. The main mechanical properties of metals are strength, hardness, toughness, ductility and malleability, brittleness, fatigue, creep and compression. There are strong metals and soft metals, ductile and non-ductile, malleable and nonmalleable, tough and brittle.

Text 2. KEVIN’S NEW ROOM

I’ve got a room in the students’ hostel. Do you want to hear anything about it? Well, listen then.

The room isn’t very large but it’s rather nice. It has two windows and a balcony… Yes, a balcony. It’s just luck that I have it: there are only two rooms with balconies on my floor. The balcony and one window overlook the garden, the other faces the street.

The furniture is very simple: two beds, a desk in the middle of the room, a wardrobe, a shelf and two bedside tables. There are also three chairs and one armchair. The armchair is very comfortable.

On one of the walls there is a picture of my native town and on the other – a small mirror. And there is a rug on the floor.

In one of the corners of the room there is a bookcase where we keep our books … I say “we”. Well, I share the room with my fellow-student. He’s a nice guy and I think he’s a good room-mate. That’s all.

Now, please, tell me about your room.
