I keep watch in the engine room every day. During my watch I check the machinery. I inspect all the spaces in the engine room and report to the watch engineer. I carry out all the necessary repairs. I take measurements of fuel and oil with the tide-gauge. I fill the tanks and lubricators. I take readings. If necessary I stop the leakage. I shut the valves, replace worn packings, connect or disconnect the flanges, tighten the packing glands, renew the pipes, pump out water from the bilges of the engine room.

I replace worn parts if necessary. If equipment is out of order I inform the watch engineer, who keeps watch in the Central Control Station. I always follow safety rules.
