II.Read the text.
London is the biggest city in Britain. More that eight million people live and work there. It is a centre for business and for f tourism.
The most important parts of London are the City of London, the East End, the West End and Westninster.
The City or the Square Mile is the oldest part of London.It got it's name from the fact that its area covers about one square mile. In the City the streets and pavements are very narrow and on weekdays the traffic is very heavy because the City is the commercial centre of London, and London’s most important firms have offices there.
The West End is the western part of London.It is between the City and Hyde Park. The City and the West End are the heart of the capital. Here the visitor will find all the most interesting buildings, theatres, museums, picture galleries, shops and gardens.
Westminster with government buildings is the next part of London. There one can see the Westminster palace, the Westminster Abbey, and the Clock Tower with the great bell - Big Ben.
The East End is the Eastern part of London. In the East End there are most of the factories and docks, many buildings are very old, streets are dirty.
London has many wonderful sights which attract the attention of thousand of people from every part of the world. There are many beautiful squares and parks in the city, the "lungs'' of London. The biggest parks are: Hyde park with its Speaker's Corner, St.Jameses park and Regent’s Park.
London is also a modern city. A lot of skyscrapers have been built there. The metro of London is one of the biggest in the world.
