I. Поставьте глаголы, стоящие в скобках в зависимости от смысла в Present Simple или Past Simple. Переведите предложения на русский язык.

III. Прочитайте текст. Задайте к предложениям вопросы, используя вопросительные слова, данные в скобках.

Rudolf Diesel was a German engineer (what?). He was born in 1858 and died in 1913 (when?). In 1897 he invented a new internal combustion engine (what?). This engine is known as a diesel and it began a transport revolution in cars, lorries, trains and ships (what kind of?). The main advantage of diesels is that they run on rather cheap fuel (what?).

Embargoes and Sanctions

Governments can prohibit the import or export of certain products for military, sanitary, moral or political reasons. A military embargo prevents weapons going to a certain country. The United States prohibits the import of certain birds and animals for sanitary reasons. Moral reasons are the grounds for embargoing cocaine, heroin and other drugs. Sometimes governments prevent the export for political reasons. For example, the United Nations set embargo on sales to and purchases from, Rhodesia before it became Zimbabwe.

Sanctions are a form of reaction to illegal actions of another party. There are sanctions against dumping, for example. Dumping means shipping large amounts of a product to another country and prices below the cost of production or below the selling price.
