Terminal Building Functions

1. A three-level-operation terminal building is designed for airports handled large volumes of international and domestic passenger traffic. International and domestic passengers are processed at separate levels. One level can be used only for international passengers, one level for domestic passengers, and the ground level - for baggage and service facilities. Arrangement for efficient handling of baggage constitutes as essential part of processing passengers. An ideal arrangement is one in which the baggage is ready and waiting for arriving passengers as they reach the baggage claim area.

2. The terminal building should provide space for many activities. Among them are the airline operations, in particular, passenger and baggage handling counters such as ticket counters (booking office), check-in counters; baggage claim area, an information counter (inquiry office), telecommunication facilities, mail express and light cargo processing, flight catering activities.

3. A considerable amount of space must be allocated for the convenience of the general public. The terminal building must provide space for: a central lobby, or concourse where passengers may rest while waiting

for their flights; facilities tor dispensing food (restaurants, snack- bars., cafe), a nursery for passengers with small children; a first-aid room; public telephones, a post-office department; various gift shops and news-stands. International airports have two halls: an arrival hail and a departure hall. Yet, there is also a transit hall for transit passengers. Customs inspection, passport and health control are needed only at airports serving international traffic.
