1.Ukraine

  1. Ukraine is the one of the largest independent states in Europe.

  2. It has a population of 48 million. Ukraine is divided into 24 regions called “oblast” and the Republic of the Crimea.

  3. It borders on Poland, Belarus, Russia, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova.

  4. The Dnieper is the largest and most important river.

  5. The other long rivers are the Dnister and the Southern Buh.

  6. There are also the Carpathians and Crimean mountains.

  7. The main part of the territory are plains.

  8. The country has various mineral resources.

  9. The capital of Ukraine is Kyiv.

  1. It is a political, administrative, economic, scientific, and cultural center of the country.

  2. Ukraine is an industrial and agricultured country.

  3. One of the most important branches of national economy is power industry.

  4. There are many public libraries, museums, cinemas, theatres, secondary and higher schools in the country.

  5. Ukraine has a democratic political system.

  6. It is a parliamentary presidential republic.

  7. The people of Ukraine elect the President for a five-year term.

  8. The executive power belongs to the Parliament.

  9. The President is the head of the state.

  10. Ukraine's Parliament called The Verkhovna Rada is the nation's legislative body.

  11. Ukraine was proclaimed as an independent state on the 24th of August in 1991.

  12. That day became a national holiday and is called the Day of Independence.

  13. Ukraine is a member of the United Nations Organization.

  14. The Ukrainian people are proud of their country.

1. Ukraine has a long history which goes back to the remote past.

2. The term Ukraina first appeared in the chronicles in the 12th century.

3. This was the name for the southern lands of the ancient Kyiv Rus.

4. The history of Ukraine reflects different stages of its historical development, numerous periods of its prosperity and decay.

5. For a long period our country lived under the rule of the Tatar-Mongols, the Turks, Poland, Lithuania and Russia.

6. Only in 1991 Ukraine became a sovereign and independent state.

7. On August 24 1991 Ukraine was proclaimed independent democratic state.

8. Ukraine has its own original culture and arts.

9. Ukraine has given the world many brilliant names in literature and art.

10. The names of Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Mikhailo Kotsyubinsky are known in the whole world.

11. Ukrainian opera singers are warmly received in many countries of the world.

12. Ukraine takes an active part in the world cultural process.

13. Ukrainian orchestras, singers, ballet-masters visit different countries every year.

14. Ukraine has many professional theatres and philharmonic societies.

15. They are well-known not only in our country but all over the world.

16. Ukrainian culture is also famous for its rich and ancient traditions.

17. One of such traditions is to decorate homes with green tree branches and fragrant herbs on the Trinity.

18. Summer holiday known as Saint Kupala is full of magic and ritual.

19.On the 19th of August vegetables, fruits, mushrooms and honey are blessed.

20. But there are very many other interesting traditions in our country.

21. It will take much time to mention all of them.
