5.1. The vinnytsia national technical university (diff.)
1. The Vinnytsia National Technical University is a very young institution of higher education in our country.
2. It was founded in 1960 as a general technical department and then it was a branch of the Kiev Polytechnical Institute.
3. In 1974 it became the independent Vinnytsia Poytehnical Institute.
4. In 2003 our University received the status "National".
5. According to the new structure of the University, there are 11 institutes included in VNTU.
6. Among them there are 7 profession oriented institutes, each institute having two faculties.
7. Today the University has a student body of 8000 people and academic staff of 350 persons.
8. The main function of the University is to give specialized training of high degree.
9. The University provides full-time and correspondence instruction.
10. A few years ago a new department called "the department of pre-university training" was organized here.
11. The course of tuition at the University lasts 5 years.
12. Each academic year has 3 terms.
13. During a term students attend lectures, seminars, tutorials, carry out laboratory tests and work at their yearly and term papers.
14. At the end of each term students have winter and summer exams.
15. The University offers 4 year study leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering and 6 year study leading to the degree of Master of Engineering.
16. The students of the first and second year study the following subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanics, Strength of Materials, History, Foreign Languages, Philosophy, Culture of Ukraine, etc.
17. Specialization begins in the third year.
18. The study of theory is followed by professional training.
19. Students have their industrial training at the enterprises to get some practical know-how.
20. The students of our University have 6 hostels with all modern conveniences.
21. All the students who come to study from other cities and towns live there.
22. The students take an active part in the social life of the University.
23. Some years ago our University celebrated its fortieth anniversary.
