6. Read and translate the text. Hotel service.
The hotels in England can be divided into several categories. The most expensive are the hotels of the category “Luxe”. Only Arabian sheikhs and millionaires can live there.
The next one in the category “Charming Town House”. The service there is good and the price is not very high comparatively with the 1st category.
The 3d category includes the hotels of London which are situated mainly around the big railway stations.
The hotels of the next category are “Boarding Houses”, “Bed and Breakfast” (usually under the mask of B&B), and small country hotels which are called “inns”.
The cheapest way staying are “Youth Hostels”, “Youth Holiday Centers”, “Country Guest Houses”. VAT – Value Added Tax (НДС) is included in the price. VAT is 17,5% (per sent).
Very often in english hotels the cost of breakfast is included in the cost of staying. You can book continental breakfast – tea or coffee and a roll with butter and jam or substantial English breakfast-starter (flakes) with milk, juice and so on and the main course – fried eggs with ham, tomato and white bread.
In the USA and Canada the prices in the hotels are higher than in England. As a rule big hotels are situated in a center of a city. Besides the local hotels there is a net of hotels and restaurants such as “Hilton” and “Sheraton”.
If you have a car it is cheaper to stay at motels. Usually the cost of breakfast is not included in the cost of living.
In England a tip is included in a bill (the column – “Service Charge”). If a tip is not included you have “to give a tip” about 10-15% of the bill’s sum. They don’t give a tip in pubs.
8. Ask your friend:
-
на сколько категорий подразделяются гостиницы в Англии;
-
какая самая дорогая категория;
-
какие гостиницы включены в 3-ю категорию;
-
в гостиницах какого типа помимо помещения можно получить завтрак;
-
в чем различие между континентальным и английским завтраком;
-
где могут остановиться люди, имеющие машину;
-
дают ли чаевые в пабах;
9. Fill in the missing remarks:
Clerk: Good morning, sir. Can I help you?
C: I’m sorry, sir. I’m afraid we have no rooms with a shower available at the moment.
C: Let me see… Yes there are some rooms.
С: 20 pounds a night.
(Less expensive)
C: I’m afraid not. It’s the cheapest.
