Oral Activity (Guessing Game)
The teacher divides the class into two teams and chooses a leader. The leader chooses a person . The two teams in turn try to guess who he is by asking the leader wh-questions.
Team A S1: Where is he from? Leader: He is from Germany.
Team B S1: How old is he? Leader: He’s 23.
Team A S2: What’s his favourite sport? Leader: Swimming.
Team B S2: What kind of music does he like? Leader: Classical music.
Team A S3: Is it Walter? Leader: Yes, it’s Walter.

Present Simple is used : |

Adverbs of frequency (often, always, usually, sometimes etc.) are placed before main verbs but after auxiliary / modal verbs (be, have, can, will, must, shall etc.). He often goes to the theatre. He is never late. |
Some verbs appear rarely in the continuous form. These verbs express a permanent state and they are: appear (= seem), be, believe, belong, cost, feel, forget, hate, have (= possess), know, like, love, mean, need, prefer, realise, remember, see, seem, smell, sound, suppose, taste, think, understand, want etc.

The teacher divides the class into two teams and asks the students to read the text below. Then, the teams in turn ask and answer questions about the text. Each correct question and answer gets 1 point. The team with the most points is the winner.
Ann Roberts is a rich and famous singer. She lives in a big house in California. She started singing when she was 10 years old. She first sang at parties for her friends and family. Ann had to leave school at sixteen and get a job because her parents were poor. She worked in a restaurant for two years. One evening, when she was working, a friend told her about a singing competition she had seen in a newspaper she had been reading that morning. Ann entered the competition and won it! She became a star because she could sing so well. Now she doesn't have to work in a restaurant any more and she is very happy. This year she has visited ten different countries! At the moment she is visiting Italy.

4. for fixed arrangements in the near future. I'm flying to London tomorrow. (It's all arranged. I've already bought the tickets. The time of the action is always stated or understood.) |
