Circle all gerunds or gerund phrases. Consider a possessive part of a gerund phrase. Do not circle present participles or verbs in the progressive form.
OK, folks, we're back. Now for some suggestions on (improving) the quality of your life by slowing it down. I'm going to be describing some hypothetical situations and giving you a recommendation for each one. Now let's talk first about driving. You're on your way to work, and you're running late. As you approach an intersection, you see that the light is turning yellow. Adrenaline starts coursing through your system, and you feel the churning of your stomach and the tightening of your muscles. Stop! Instead of speeding up and charging through the intersection, force yourself to slow down. Count to twenty and breathe deeply. Let your neck muscles relax. Say to yourself, I will not hurry. Miss the light. Having missed the light, ask yourself, Why does it matter? Now concentrate on being in the moment and enjoying that moment. How much time would you have saved by barreling through that intersection, anyway? Thirty or forty seconds?
