Перед вами учебное пособие по английскому языку
«Практический курс первого иностранного языка. 3 курс».
Учебное пособие «Практический курс первого языка. 3 курс»
предназначено для преподавателей и студентов 3 курса лингвистических специальностей. Все задания разделены на 5 блоков
(модулей) согласно тематическому планированию, материалы
почерпнуты из самых разных областей знания.
Все пять модулей имеют четкую структуру, включают задания на развития навыков как в рецептивных, так и в продуктивных видах речевой деятельности. Преимущественно все здания
в модулях разрабатывались самостоятельно авторами пособия;
в разделах Consult additional resources, которые содержатся в каждом модуле, представлены ссылки на задания из других учебно-методических комплексов по изучаемым темам. В каждом
модуле можно найти раздел Translation с заданиями на перевод,
предназначенный для отработки переводческих навыков, что
особенно полезно студентам переводческих специальностей.
Выполняя эти задания, предлагается перевести текст, но также
можно рассмотреть языковую и экстралингвистическую составляющую объекта перевода. Пособие включает творческие задания, направленные на развитие креативного мышления. Кроме
того, большое внимание уделено коммуникативному аспекту:
упражнениям на отработку навыков говорения.
Кроме того, пособие «Практический курс первого языка.
3 курс» включает приложения, в которых вы найдете speaking
references, individual reading and home-watching lists, list of
phrasal verbs and their derivatives.

INTRODUCTION
Dear colleagues and students!
Here is a textbook on the English language: “Practical course of
the first foreign language, 3
The textbook “Practical course of the first language, 3rd year students” is intended for professors and the 3rd year students of linguistic specialties: all tasks are divided into 5 blocks (modules) according to thematic planning; materials are drawn from a variety of
knowledge fields.
All five modules have a clear structure and take account of tasks
for the development of skills in different language activities: reception (listening and reading), production (speaking and writing) and
mediation (translating). Mostly all the materials in the modules were
created by the authors; in the Consult additional resources Sections,
which you can find in each module, references to tasks from other educational and methodological complexes on the topics under
consideration are given. In each module you can find a Translation
Section with tasks designed to develop translation skills, which is
especially beneficial for students of translation studies’ specialties.
When completing the tasks, it is proposed to translate the texts / sentences, but you can consider the linguistic and extralinguistic components of the translation object as well.
The textbook comprises creative tasks aimed at developing creative thinking. In addition, much attention is paid to the communicative aspect: exercises, developing speaking skills.
Furthermore, the textbook “Practical course of the first language,
3rd year students” includes appendices in which you will find speak-
ing references, individual reading and home-watching lists, a list of
phrasal verbs and their derivatives.

EXPRESSES ITSELF.
1.1. Listen to Why art is important by Katerina Gregos [29]
and ponder over the following: The speaker mentions two quotes
about art: ‘All art is quite useless’ (Oscar Wilde) and ‘We have art
so as not to perish from the truth‘ (Friedrich Nietzsche), which of
them do you agree or disagree with and why? Could you explain
what ‘socially and politically engaged art’ is? Is art political? What
does art do? What can it do? And why is it important? What would
life be like without art?
1.2. Read the text [54]. Answer the questions, consult addi-
tional credible sources if needed: What is Dada? What was the
main purpose of Marcel Duchamp and his fellow artists? Where and
when were the first art educational entities established? What did
they offer? What was the notion of art in the ancient times and middle ages? Has the perception of the phenomenon of art changed ever
since? What was the conception of Modernism in art? Does it have
any unique features in comparison to the preceding art movements?
When did the idea of “work of art” emerge? What can be called

“work of art”? Who is “true artist”? Can digital art be considered
as “genuine art” or not? What are the main contemporary art tendencies?
