Introduction
The main idea of the tutorial is to combine the foreign language programme aspects with the professionally oriented texts referring to Food production.
The central theme of the tutorial “Making a career in the sphere of Food production” is realized step by step – from choosing an occupation to getting necessary education, then to preparing resumes and covering letter, making an appointment and finally having an interview and getting a job. Moreover, the cases of changing a job are also described. Much attention is given to learning English for finding a job in international company.
For studying the fundamentals of Food science and food production professionally oriented texts were selected, adapted and placed in logical sequence – from food chemistry, nutrition, to determination of food quality, food safety, food processing and finally to food production for kids and sportsmen. Short information on Biotechnology and Bioengineerig.is also included.
The tutorial consists of 21 units. Each structure unit begins with pretext exercises (Vocabulary study), followed by reading and comprehension of the text and assignments in speaking, writing, and translation. Grammar point focuses on specific phenomena of English – Sentence word order, Non-Finite Forms of the Verb, Indirect speech, Prepositions and Conjunctions, Punctuation, etc. The explanation of the grammar phenomenon, if needed, may be taken from internet resources. The concluding assignment “Food Science Basics” is aimed at enriching professional terminology in Food production and processing.
The last section of the tutorial comprises texts on Food science for additional reading and translation. Other types of training exercises may be also added.
Making a list of terms is the best practice for Independent work.

TEXT: WHAT OCCUPATION TO CHOOSE
One of the most difficult problems that a young person faces is deciding what to do about a future career. There are individuals, of course, who from the time they are six years old “know” that they want to be doctors or pilots, or engineers, but the majority of us do not get around to making a decision about an occupation or career until somebody or something forces us to face the problem.
Choosing an occupation takes time. There are many things you have to think about when you try to decide what you would like to do in future. You may find that you will have to take special courses to qualify for a particular kind of work, or may find out that you will need to get some actual work experience to gain enough knowledge to qualify for a particular job.
Fortunately, there are some people you can turn to for advice and help in making your decision. There are specialists who are professionally qualified to counsel you and give detailed information about job qualifications. You can talk over your ideas with family members and friends who are always ready to listen to you and to offer suggestions. But
4
even if you get other people involved in helping you make a decision, selfevaluation is an important part of the decision-making process.

Food and food sources
Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. The substance is taken by an organism and is assimilated by the organism's cells to provide energy, to maintain life, or to stimulate growth. Historically, humans had food through two methods: hunting and gathering, and agriculture. Today, the majority of the food energy required by the ever- increasing population of the world is supplied by the food industry.
Food sources. Most food has its origin in plants. Some food is obtained directly from plants; but even animals that are used as food sources are raised by feeding them food derived from plants. Cereal grain is a staple food that provides more food energy worldwide than any other type of crop. Corn (maize), wheat, and rice – in all of their varieties – account for 87% of all grain production worldwide. Most of the grain that is produced worldwide is fed to livestock. Some foods, not from animal or plant sources, include various edible fungi, especially mushrooms. Fungi and ambient bacteria are used in the preparation of fermented and pickled foods like leavened bread, alcoholic drinks, cheese, pickles, and yogurt. Inorganic substances such as salt, baking soda are used to preserve or chemically alter an ingredient.

TEXT: IN THE WORLD OF JOBS
We spend a great part of our lives at our jobs, so choosing a right career is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life. Many students finish high school and begin college without a clear idea of what they want to do in future. Part of the problem is the size of the job market itself. With so many kinds of jobs (about 2000) how can you tell which will be interesting for you? Some of occupations are already overcrowded. In outdated industries there may be little need for new workers, while new and growing industries will offer jobs just now and only in the future.
Therefore, it is extremely important to explore your choice of occupations and evaluate yourself. Find out where your interests and talents lie. Postponing a decision is an error people make. "I'll get started tomorrow or next week, or next year," – many people think. These people refuse to face the problem, hoping it will go away. However if you don't take the first step now, how can you plan for the future, how can you take the right way? Such people miss many opportunities.
First start with yourself, make a list of your interests, talents and abilities. Most people have a lot of these, but at the beginning they are undeveloped and may not seem outstanding. By concentrating on a few, or
7
on one you may surprise yourself at how good you can manage it. The interest covers the major fields in which most people find careers: science, engineering, technology, computer science, social service, business, art, and so on. Sometimes we say that someone we know is 'a square peg in a round hole'. This means that person we are talking about is not suitable for the job.
What are your natural talents? We all have natural talents, certain tasks that come easy to us. When we use our natural talents, time moves fast and we tend to receive compliments for our abilities. Knowing where your natural talents lie is the key to choosing the right career. What do you always enjoy doing, and how can these skills be applied to a future job? These are questions to be answered before choosing a job.

11. Food Science Basics. Translate the following text in a written form using a dictionary. Make a list of words and word combinations referring to Food industry.
Plants and animals in human diets
Plants. Many plants and plant parts are eaten as food and around 2,000 plant species are cultivated for food.
Seeds of plants are a good source of food for animals, including humans, because they contain the nutrients necessary for the plant's initial growth, including many healthful fats, such as omega fats. In fact, the majority of food consumed by human beings are seed-based foods. Edible seeds include cereals (corn, wheat, rice, etc.), legumes (beans, peas, etc.), and nuts. Oilseeds are often pressed to produce rich oils, such as sunflower oil. Seeds are typically high in unsaturated fats and are considered to be a health food, although not all seeds are edible.
Fruits are the ripened ovaries of plants, including the seeds within. Fruits make up a significant part of the diets of most cultures. Some botanical fruits, such as tomatoes, pumpkins are eaten as vegetables.
Vegetables are a type of plant matter that is commonly eaten as food. These include root vegetables (potatoes and carrots), bulbs (onion family), leaf vegetables (lettuce), stem vegetables (bamboo shoots) and other vegetables such as cabbage or cauliflower.
Animals are used as food either directly or indirectly (by the products they produce). Meat is an example of a direct product taken from an animal, which comes from muscle systems or from organs. Food products produced by animals include milk, which in many cultures is dried or processed into dairy products (cheese, butter, etc.). In addition, birds and other animals lay eggs, which are often eaten, and bees produce honey, a reduced nectar from flowers, which is a popular sweetener in many
