Cover Letter Writing Guidelines

Heading

Cover letter should begin with both you and the employer's contact information (name, address, phone number, email) followed by the date. If

this is an email rather than an actual letter, include your contact information at the end of the letter, after your signature.

Salutation

Begin your cover letter salutation with "Dr. / Mr. /Ms. Last Name." If you are unsure if your contact is male or female, you can write out their full name. If you do not know the employer's last name, simply write, "Dear Hiring Manager."

Introduction

Begin your introduction by stating what job you are applying for. Explain where you heard about the job, particularly if you heard about it from a contact associated with the company. Briefly mention how your skills and experience match the company and/or position; this will give the employer a preview of the rest of your letter. Your goal in the introduction is to get the reader's attention.

Body

In a paragraph or two, explain why you are interested in the job and why you make an excellent candidate for the position. Mention specific qualifications listed in the job posting, and explain how you meet those qualifications. Do not simply restate your resume, but provide specific examples that demonstrate your abilities.

Closing

In the closing section of your cover letter, restate how your skills make you a strong fit for the company and/or position. State that you would like the opportunity to interview or discuss employment opportunities. Explain what you will do to follow-up, and when you will do it. Thank the employer for his/her consideration.

Signature

Use a complimentary close, and then end your cover letter with your signature, handwritten, followed by your typed name. If this is an email, simply include your typed name, followed by your contact information, after the complimentary close.

Pasteurisation

Pasteurization or pasteurisation is a process that kills microbes (mainly bacteria) in food and drink, such as milk, juice, canned food, and others. French scientist Louis Pasteur invented it in the nineteenth century.

In 1864, Pasteur discovered that heating beer and wine was enough to kill most of the bacteria that caused spoilage, preventing these beverages from turning sour. The process achieves this by eliminating pathogenic microbes and lowering microbial numbers to prolong the quality of the beverage. Today, the dairy industry use pasteurization widely. Other food processing industries use it to achieve food preservation and food safety.

Unlike sterilization, pasteurization is not intended to kill all microorganisms in the food. Instead, it aims to reduce the number of viable pathogens so they are unlikely to cause disease (if the pasteurized product is stored as indicated and is consumed before its expiration date). Commercial-scale sterilization of food is not common because it adversely affects the taste and quality of the product. Certain foods, such as dairy products, may be superheated to ensure pathogenic microbes are destroyed.

Milk is an excellent medium for microbial growth, and when stored at ambient temperature bacteria and other pathogens soon proliferate. Pasteurization is the reason for milk's extended shelf life.

High-temperature, short time (HTST) pasteurized milk typically has a refrigerated shelf life of two to three weeks, whereas ultra-pasteurized milk can last much longer, sometimes two to three months. When ultra-heat treatment (UHT) is combined with sterile handling and container technology (such as aseptic packaging), it can even be stored unrefrigerated for up to 9 months.

Developed countries adopted milk pasteurization to prevent disease and loss of life, and as a result, milk is now widely considered as one of the safest foods.

A traditional form of pasteurization to increase the keeping qualities of butter was used in England before 1773 and was introduced to Boston in the US by 1773, although it was not widely practiced in the United States for the next 20 years. In the early 20th century, Milton Joseph Rosenau, established the standards (i.e. low temperature, slow heating at 60 C (140 F) for 20 minutes) for the pasteurization of milk.

In Britain there is a special service for school leavers, the Careers Advisory Service, which helps young people who are looking for their first job. Careers Officers give practical advice on interview techniques, application forms, pay, National Insurance and Trade Unions.

When you are job-hunting you may apply to Employment Agency. An employment agency is an organization which matches employers to employees. In all developed countries, there are a publicly funded employment agency and nonprofit agencies that do not receive fees for finding jobs for people. There also exist numerous private employment agencies which receive a fee for their work.

Some employment agencies see applicants without an appointment. Counselors there may spend a few minutes with each applicant. But an agency that deals with technical and higher-salaried jobs, spends more time with each applicant. Appointments are necessary in this type of agency.

An interview for any kind of job generally requires an appointment. It is important to be on time for your appointment. If you have made an appointment and cannot keep it, or if you are more than ten minutes late, you should always call the interviewer. If you do not cancel the

appointment or notify the interviewer that you will be late, you will create a negative impression on your possible employer.

In the British press, we can also read about Recruitment or Hiring as a process of attracting, selecting and appointing suitable candidates for jobs. Internet-based technologies for supporting all aspects of recruitment have become widespread nowadays.

Sourcing is another strategy to attract or identify candidates to fill job vacancies, using appropriate media, such as job portals, local or national newspapers, specialist recruitment media, professional publications, window advertisements, job centers, or other ways via the internet. This is the initial research for potential candidates whom later on the recruiter can contact and screen.

A functional food
