VIII. Choose the correct variant:

The past simple

IX. Ask your friend questions about his holiday, using the Past Simple.

Eg. where/go? – Where did you go?

  7. How much money / spend?

  8. What / see?

X. When we talk about the past we can use used to / didn’t use to /

NEVER USED TO if :

  • we talk about states e.g. I used to have blond hair when I was a baby.

  • we talk about activities that we did regularly / many times e.g. I used to play football when I was a teenager, I used to pass my driving licence when I-was a teenager

We don't use USED TO / DIDN’T USE TO / NEVER USED TO if:

  • what we say about the past is still true today e.g. We can't say:” I used to have blond hair” if I still have blond hair.

we say how long or how many times we did something e.g. I-used to live-4-in London for two years.

Remember: used to + infinitive; get used to + - ing form.

be used to + - ing form

Ask your partner. Do you usually…?Did you use to…?Do you think you could get used to …?

XI. Complete the sentences using these pairs of verbs. Use the past simple in one space and the past continuous in the other.

XII. Complete the sentences with one of these verbs: be, enjoy, have, live. Use the same verb for each sentence in the pair, in one, you can use only the past simple; in the other you can use either the past simple or the past continuous.

XIII. Correct the sentences if necessary or put a ٧
