При написании внутреннего адреса часто употребляются следующие сокращения:
в названии компаний:
plc или PLC - Public Limited Company (в названии английских компаний) — акционерное общество открытого типа;
Corp. - Corporation (в названии американских компаний) — корпорация;
Inc. - Incorporated (в названии американских компаний) — акционерное общество, зарегистрированное как корпорация;
в почтовом адресе:
Rd - Road;
Ave – Avenue;
St - Street;
Sq. - Square;
# - обозначение номера в США;
No - обозначение номера в Великобритании
при указании имени адресата:
Mr White
Mr J. White
Mr James White — при обращении к мужчине;
Miss Black — при обращении к незамужней женщине или молодой девушке;
Mrs Brown — при обращении к замужней женщине;
Ms Grey — при обращении к женщине, если неизвестно, замужем она или нет. Эта форма обращения становится все более употребительной.
Если письмо адресовано определенному лицу, то после имени через запятую может быть указано название должности, звания или ученой степени. Например:
Ms Saunders, Sales Manager
Mr Т. Smith, Professor
Mr N. Moore, Ph.D.
Prof. John Brown
Dr Vivienne Parker
Если вы используете сокращенные формы слов во внутреннем адресе, то следует помнить, что:
а) точка ставится после инициалов при написании имени, например:
J.W. Brown, F. Harris;
б) точка не ставится в конце сокращенного слова, если первая и последняя буквы сокращенного слова совпадают с первой и последней буквами полного слова, например:
Dr (Doctor) — доктор (звание)
Mr (Mister) — господин, мистер
Mrs (Missis) — госпожа, миссис
Ltd (limited) — обозначение частной компании с ограниченной ответственностью
Dept (Department) — отдел
Rd (road) — дорога

4.2. Вступительное обращение, заключительная формула вежливости
Необходимо помнить, что существуют определенные соответствия в написании вступительного обращения и заключительной формулы вежливости. Это определяется тем, на чье имя написано письмо.
1) Письмо, написанное на имя компании, требует использования следующего соответствия:
Dear Sirs — Yours faithfully
Обращение в американскую компанию обычно начинается и оканчивается формулой:
Gentlemen — Yours truly
2) Письмо, адресованное женщине (замужней или незамужней), требует использования следующего соответствия:
Dear Madam — Yours faithfully
3) Письмо, адресованное сотруднику фирмы, чьего имени вы не знаете, требует использования следующего соответствия:
Dear Sir — Yours faithfully
4) Письмо, адресованное сотруднику фирмы, чье имя вам известно, требует использования следующего соответствия:
Mr White/Dear Mrs White/Dear Ms White — Yours sincerely
5) Если с адресатом вашего письма вас связывают не только деловые, но и дружеские отношения и вы обращаетесь к нему по имени, то можно использовать следующую формулу:
Dear Liz — Best wishes / Sincerely
Dear Dominic — Regards
В последнее время в деловых письмах все яснее проявляется тенденция не подчеркивать, является ваш деловой партнер мужчиной или женщиной. Для этого вместо обращения «Dear Sir», «Dear Madam» широко используются приветствия, в которых указывается должность или статус адресата и соответственно используется следующая формула:
Dear Personnel Officer/Dear Sales Manager — Yours faithfully
Dear Editor/Dear Reader — Yours faithfully
Dear Parents/Dear Colleague — Yours faithfully
