12. Speak about experience and qualities you have acquired working in a hotel as a tour leader and tour guide
As you know, the person who accompanies a group of holidaymakers on a packaged tour is variously known as tour guide, leader, manager, director or escort. And today I want to tell you about my work experience and qualities I have had working in a hotel as a tour guide and tour leader.
My main duties were to meet people from all over the world, to lead a group from site to site, to carry for their every need, to answer their questions, and to deal with every emergency. The number of people in your group depends on a wide range of factors, such as the popularity of the activity and destination, the time of year, any health and safety considerations and the accessibility/cost of the tour. I also deal with the problems of lost luggage and unsatisfactory hotel accommodations, with rainy days and fatigue, with sudden illness, and with interpersonal problems that arise among the members of the group.
I was responsible for all aspects of tour coordination, including checking the group into and out of hotels, coordinating sightseeing and transportation, and providing informational about the many sights visited.
Frankly speaking, even though I may be walking the same route that I have done over the past few months, I’ll always see something new.
Finally, I would like to underline that the tour leader and tour guide are jobs where you always have to contact with public. And if you choose this work in future, you have to be tolerant, outgoing, to have the good language skills and enjoy dealing with people.
13. Speak on the advantages of organized tours
Organized tours, which are also known as package tours or holidays, include all of the components necessary for a complete vacation: transportation to and from the destination, hotel accommodation and transfer. In addition to the basic features, the tour package may also offer meals, entertainment, sightseeing, a rental car and many other extras.
I am going to tell you about the advantages of organized tours. First of all I would like to emphasize that the client pays a lower price for such package than if he were trying to make all the arrangements on his own. When airplane tickets and hotel rooms are reserved in blocks by the tour operators, considerable savings are passed on to the customers. To tell the truth, many people would never travel at all without the price inducements offered by packaged tours. So, one of the most important advantages of organized tours is the price.
A second advantage is the opportunity for tourist to make all his travel arrangements in one place at one time. The independent traveler often has to go to considerable trouble to put the different pieces of his trip together. So, the tour offers convenience as one of its preferences.
And finally, one more advantage can be summed up in the term accessibility. Tours make it possible for people to visit many remote areas that would be too difficult for them to try to see on their own. Tour operators have made endless places throughout the world accessible to the general public.
So, there is a wide variety of advantages and opportunities of organized tours and all of them provide the best conditions for the clients.
