The coursework should be prepared in the form of a brochure accompanied by the electronic version of it. Both paper document and disk are handed to the supervisor.
4. Oral defence (presentation)
Oral defence is an essential part of the coursework. It consists of a presentation and answers to the questions.
A presentation should be no longer than 10 minutes. It can be accompanied by the visuals and/or handouts. The presentation aims to acquaint with the central problem of the coursework and with the results of the research. A student should demonstrate his understanding of the theoretical background to the topic, his/her analitical abilities, as well as the presentation skills.
After the presentation the student has to answer some questions on the topic.
Afterwards the supervisor makes his comments and assesses the presentation and the coursework as a whole.
Oral defence takes place at the date appointed by the supervisor. Other students are allowed to attend the defence (at their choice).
5. Coursework assessment
5.1. Assessment criteria
A coursework is an integrity of three parts: process of work, written document and presentation. All these are assessed by the supervisor according to the IBS criteria.
a) process of work assessment:
Diligence, responsibility, initiative of a student can bring him/her additional points to the final score.
It is important to meet all the deadlines, because students need time to get some comments on his/her document from the superviser and make the necessary corrections.
b)written document assessment:
knowledge of relevant concepts/issues/models and ability to apply them to the analysis of the economic situations/problems/phenomena;
ability to analyse and synthesise, give arguments and make conclusions/recommendations;
ability to use statistical data and examples to support/reject concepts;
correspondence of the text to the IBS requirements.
c) oral defence assessment:
logic and structure of the presentation;
evidence of understanding of concepts, models, etc.;
ability to formulate own opinion and to support it with arguments;
ability to answer questions on the topic;
presentation skills.
5.2. Assessment scheme
The project is assessed according to the following scheme:
Type of activity Percentage of the final score
Process of work 15
Written document 65
Oral defence 20
Total score 100
The final grade is calculated as:
0-49 Failed
