1. The USA is famous for its writers, poets, composers, artists, scientists and public men. 2. Among them are Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Charles Chaplin, Mark Twain, Hemingway, Jack London, Bill Gates, Alexander Bell, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Elva Edison and many other well-known names. 3. Americans are proud of their outstanding people. 4. The names of these people are known all over the world. 5. Abraham Lincoln was one of the most famous presidents of the United States of America. 6. He hated slavery and fought against it. 7. He was very popular and in 1860 he became president of the USA. 8. He was well-known all over America and Americans loved him very much. 9. They called him the Greatest American. 10. George Washington was the first American president. 11. He was elected President of the USA in 1789. 12. Washington commanded the American Army against the British Army. 13. American writers stand high in the world literature. 14. The best books of American literature will always be a great school of life for those who read them. 15. Among the books we read and enjoy there are many American novels, stories and poems. 16. The man in the books of Jack London lives a difficult life full of danger. 17. People in the books by London never lose hope, they never stop fighting for life. 18. Ernest Hemingway lived an active and heroic life. 19. He was an eyewitness and an active participant in the historic events that took place in different countries of the world. 20. From his reflections, from what he had seen and experienced himself many of his books were born. 21. The chief and most remarkable thing about Hemingway was that his life can not be separated from his books. 22. Mark Twain wrote many stories which are still popular in many countries. 23. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn will always be attractive and dear to children and adults. 24. Benjamin Franklin lived and worked in the 18th century. 25. He was a journalist and a statesman, a diplomat, a poet and a scientist. 26. His most important scientific work was done in the field of electricity. 27. He discovered a lightning rod. 28. We know some of his phrases, one of them is: "Remember that time is money". 29. Alexander Bell combined his work with an investigation into the transmission of sound by electricity. 30. He managed to transmit his voice electrically in 1875 and he patented his idea the next year. 31. He also formed the Bell Telephone Company in 1877. 32. Thomas Elva Edison was born in 1847. 33. He was interested in the telegraph and electricity. 34. At the age of 23 he made a special telegraphic machine and sold it for a lot of money. 35. With this money he was free to invent all the time. 36. Edison invented wax paper, fire alarms (пожежна сигналізація), the battery and motion pictures. 37. But his favorite invention was the phonograph, or the record paiyer. 38. He invented the phonograph in 1876. 39. His other famous invention was the light bulb (електрична лампа). 40. During his life he made over 1300 inventions. 41. Many people say that Edison was a genius - one of the smartest people in the world. 42. These and many other American famous people made a great contribution to world culture and science.
