2. Practice in reading. Use the substitution patterns:

1) – How much is that suit (belt, watch, blouse, dress)?

– It is (costs) 25 roubles (30 dollars, 50 pounds, 150 roubles).

2)– I want a pair of shoes for everyday (town, country, spring) wear.

– Your size, please.

3)– What size do you take in gloves (shoes, shirts, suits)?

Eight (34, 42, 50).

4) – Have you already tried this jacket (coat, suit, rain-coat) on?

– Yes, I have and it suits me. Where’s the cash-desk here?

5) – Do you think this dress (coat, raincoat) fits me?

– Yes, of course. You look nice in it.

3. Read and memorize the dialogues:

1)– I’d like this and that. Oh, and that, too.

– Here you are, madam. What else?

– Two red pens and a ruler.

– Yes, madam. What else?

– That’s all, thank you.

2)– Excuse me, how do I get to the footwear department?

– Straight on end, then right.

– Do they sell stockings there too?

– No, stockings are sold at the haberdashery department. This way. Second floor.

3)– Can you show me some blouses, please?

– What size?

– Thirty-eight.

– Here you are.

– Oh, I like this one. It’s just the thing I’ve been looking for.

4)– How much is that blue suit over there?

– Let me see. 800 roubles.

– I’d like something of the same cut, but cheaper.

– Then have a look at this grey one. The quality is excellent for the price.

– I’ll try it on.

5) – Well, how do I look in this coat?

– Very nice, indeed. It suits you perfectly well. And the material is of the high quality. It will wear for years, I am sure.

– Isn’t it too loose in the shoulders?

– I wouldn’t say that. But you may try (on) a size smaller.

6)– Is this the right counter for gloves?

– Yes, sir. What can I do for you?

– I want a pair of gloves.

– Leather or woollen?

– I’d like a pair of soft leather gloves.

7)– I’d like a pair of shoes, please.

– What colour?

– White.

– And what size are you?

– Seven. Can I try them on, please?

– Certainly.

8)– Can you show me a camera, please?

– Yes, here you are.

– How much is it?

– ₤45.

– That’s quite expensive. Have you got anything cheaper?

9) – Can you change this T-shirt, please?

– Why? What’s wrong with it?

– It’s too big for me.
