7. The Olympic Games
The first games were in Greece 2.700 years ago. There was one rase and the prize was a red apple.
Woman did not run in the games. In other years there were more races – and horse too.
Every new Olympic Games has new sports. Today you can watch athletics, boxing, canoeing, cycling, basketball , football, gymnastics, swimming and many other sports.
Now the Olympics are held every four years in different countries. There are three prizes for each event – a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal.
Ski jumping, skiing and skating are event in the Winter Olympic Games.
The Olympic flag has five colored rings. The colors are blue, yellow, green and red on white, because every country in the world has one of these colors on it’s flag .So, the Olympic flag means the countries are friends.
These days there is always an Olympic mascot. This is “Cobi” the moscot for Barcelona in 1992.
Unit 5
Read
I had a little hen, the prettiest ever seen,
She washed up the dishes
And kept the house clean;
She went to the mill to fetch me some flour.
She brought it home in less than an hour
She baked me my bread, she brewed me my ale,
And set by the fire and told a fine tale.
Jim
There was a boy whose name was Jim;
His friends were very good to him.
They gave him tea, and cakes, and jam,
And slices of delicious ham,
And chocolate with pink inside,
And little tricycles to ride.
