IMPORTANT
1.Never set the same HOST NAME in the network.
2.The same Radar Source should be selected on the NavNet network. Never select different radar source on each Navnet or MaxSea unit if two radars and plotters are in the network.
Setting Up Radar System
Setting up Radar parameters by choosing [Option: Radar...] from the [Utilities] menu.
Depending on Radar System Unit connected to MaxSea, you will have to adjust following Radar options :
When NavNet Radar is connected to MaxSea, the Radar Options dialog will appear as it is shown in following picture.

Adjusting the gain
Normally, set the gain to the point where excessive noise does not appear on the screen. Use a higher gain setting for greater depths and a lower setting for shallow waters.

Automatic Sounder Operation |
|

Two types of automatic sounder modes are available: |
|

|
CRUISING is for tracking the bottom, |
|
|
|
FISHING is for searching fish schools. |
|
|
CRUISING uses a higher clutter rejection setting than FISHING therefore it |
|
|
is not recommended for fish detection - weak fish echoes may be erased |
|
|
by the clutter suppression circuit. |

Automatic sounder operation is useful when you are preoccupied with |
|
|
other tasks and do not have the time to adjust the display. The automatic |
|
|
sounder function automatically selects the proper gain, range scale and |
|
|
clutter suppression level according to the depth. It works as follows: |
|
|
• The range changes automatically to locate the bottom on the lower half of |
|
|
the screen. The range jumps to one step shallower range when the bottom |
|
|
echoes reach a half way point of the full scale from the top and to one step |
|
|
deeper range when they come to the lower edge of the scale. |
|
|
• The gain is automatically adjusted to display the bottom echo in reddish |
|
|
brown (default color arrangement). |
|
|
• Clutter, which suppresses low level noise, is automatically adjusted. |
|
|
Manual Sounder Operation |
|
|
|
Manual operation is useful for observing fish schools and bottom using a |
|
|
fixed gain setting. |
|
|
The gain, range and range shift functions used together give you the |
|
|
means to select the depth you can see on the screen. The basic range can |
|
|
be thought of as providing a “window” into the water column and range |
|
|
shifting as moving the “window” to the desired depth. |

Activation Wizard: The Activation Wizard makes the software activation easier providing a user friendly interface made of windows and forms.Activation can be automated (trough the Internet), delayed (by automatic email or manual one) or totally manual.
Active leg: is a segment of the route which is currently followed.
Active route: If an autopilot is enabled, it will steer the boat along an active route, heading for each successive waypoint as it is activated.
Active Waypoint: The active waypoint or mark is the waypoint or mark towards which you are currently traveling. An active waypoint slowly flashes to make it stand out on your screen.

Alarm (XTE): Cross Track Error Alarm is activated when the boat has deviated from the desired path of travel. In certain areas, deviation from the route could put the vessel in danger. Autopilot: A self-steering device which attaches to a vessel's steering mechanism to control the vessel's bearing.
AUX: Auxiliary System/Function
AWD: Apparent Wind Direction. This is abbreviated as AWD. In order to overcome the effects of current and leeway, a vessel which is trying to reach a given waypoint may not be able to steer straight towards it. As a result, onboard wind direction measurements - the AWD - may not be the same as the True Wind Direction (TWD). Your product derives TWD from AWD by taking any bearing deviation into account.
AWS: Apparent Wind Speed - When the vessel is in motion, onboard wind speed measurements - the AWS - will differ from stationary measurements (True Wind Speed, or TWS). Your product derives TWS from AWS by taking the vessel's motion into account.

Bearing: a horizontal angle, measured from 0 to 90 degrees, fixing the direction of a line or direction of travel with respect to either a north or south direction.
Bench mark: a relatively permanent material object, natural or man-made, with a known elevation. A bench mark can be used as a reference point when navigating a route or in determining the elevation of nearby land features.

Bitmapped Image: A bitmapped image is one made from an array of dots rather than continuous lines or areas.
BMP: Bitmapped image format (Microsoft Corp.) BMP was developed by Microsoft and is the native graphics format for Windows.

Broadcast: To simultaneously send the same message to multiple recipients. Broadcasting is a useful feature in e- mail systems.
BSB Chart: BSB Electronic Charts was a company that held the exclusive license from the U.S. Department of Commerce, NOAA to develop and license electronic versions of NOAA nautical charts. Maptech now holds this license and refers to the BSB charts as the Chart Kit format. The BSB charts are in a proprietary format. Northport Systems Inc., the creator of Fugawi, has been licensed by NOAA and BSB Electronic Charts (now Maptech) to create BSB-compatible software and BSB charts in Europe and Canada. COG: Course Over Ground - the direction, reported in true or magnetic north values, in which a GPS receiver and the person operating it are moving with respect to the earth.
COM port: The interface through which your PC can communicate with peripherals.
Configuration: This word refers both to the set of features/modules available inside the software and to the action of setting them. This action is performed during the manual input of personalized codes (configuration codes) using DungleUpdate( ?).
Configuration codes: They belong to a unique user and allow him to define the features/modules he is entitled to use: his configuration.They must be entered before the first use or when the functions/modules are updated whatever may be the using mode (with or without dongle).
Contour line: a line on a map that connects points of equal elevation. The vertical distance between contour lines is equal to the contour interval.
Course-up: The chart is shown with the direction of the vessel's heading always pointing upward.This orientation corresponds to the visual view from the bridge in the directionof the ship's heading.
CPA: is the abbrevation that means Closest Point of Approach.
CPU: Central Processing Unit

CTS: Course To Steer - is the direction to reach the COG with taking into account the currents values.
CTW: Course Through the Water

Data sentence: The unit of information sent between peripherals and your program.
Datum: a reference system for surveying which involves using a plane, level, line, etc., from which to calculate heights and depths. A vertical datum is a level surface to which heights are referred. The horizontal datum is used as a reference for position.
Glossary
DDE: Dynamic Data Exchange. A Windows protocol that allows communication between applications. When information is updated in one application, related information will be updated in other applications.
Dead reckoning: A method of navigation, where known values are used to calculate unknown values. It is a convenient and versatile function since it is so crucial to the day's work in ocean navigation.

GFS: The GFS model is a generic, worldwide model covering land as well as sea areas. This is the most common of the models, and the one other software suppliers make available.
GIF: Graphics Interchange Format. This is a format for saving graphics files with data compression.
GLL: A data sentence that is part of the NMEA protocol for transferring information between electronic devices. The GLL sentence contains position information.

GPS: Global Positioning System - a global navigation system that is based on triangulation from a constellation of 24 satellites orbiting the earth. A GPS receiver pinpoints its position on earth by measuring its distance from the satellites. It does so by calculating the time it takes for a coded radio message to pass from the satellite to the GPS unit. A GPS unit needs at least three measurements to determine its exact position.

Gulf Stream model: is a weather model which adds current information to the East Coast High Resolution model.

HDG: Heading
HDOP: Abbreviation of Horizontal Dilution Of Precision. HDOP allows one to more precisely estimate the accuracy of GPS horizontal (latitude/longitude) position fixes by adjusting the error estimates according to the geometry of the satellites used.
Head-up: The Head-up mode is useful for monitoring ship's progress towards the direction of the route. The chart is shown with the direction of the vessels course upward. The display orientation is constant until a new course direction is fed in.

Ionosphere: That part of the atmosphere, extending from about 70 to 500 kilometers, in which ions and free electrons exist in sufficient quantities to reflect electromagnetic waves.
J
JPG: Joint Photographic Experts Group Format - Standard format for image storage created by this group. JPG allows large images to be significantly compressed. Along with the GIF format, it is one of the most common and widely supported image formats used for raster graphics.
L
L/L: Latitude / Longitude
LAT/LON: Coordinate systeme of any object's, espressed in Latitude and longitude.
Latitude: the distance north or south of the equator of a point on the earth's surface. This distance is measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds. Lines (parallels) of latitude circle the earth horizontally and are parallel to one another. One minute of latitude equals one nautical mile.
Leg: is the segment of a route between two waypoints.
License: It is the proof that the use of the software is granted and it contains the data relative to the use restrictions (deadline, runs…).It is generated after a successful activation process.
LMK: means Landmark, is used to indicate a land position in a coordinate system.
Longitude: the distance east or west of the prime meridian of a point on the earth's surface. Longitude is measured in degrees, minutes and seconds. Lines (meridians) of longitude create a geographic grid around the world and are not parallel, but rather converge at the poles.
M
Magnetic north: the area to which all compass needles point, located roughly 1300 miles south of true north. Magnetic north moves west slightly each year due to the earth's rotation and the friction created between the earth's liquid center and its solid crust.
Manual Activation: It is made of a dialog box displaying to the user his Site Code and requesting for the matching Site Key.It meets two needs:- to be able of entering a Site Key after a email activation request.- To be able of performing a fully manual activation.
