3D Bathymetric database
To do it select [Manage 3D database…] from [file] menu
D
This window allows you the ease of your database management.
You can :
•Backup your database
•Restore your database
•Compact your database.
•Repair your database if need
Backup the 3D database
It is important to frequently backup the 3D database by selecting Backup 3D database from the File menu.
A dialog box appears and informs you that this function may take a long time :
If you are sure, click OK.
A second dialog box appears and tells you where the backup files have been saved on your PC.
Click OK.
IMPORTANT
We recommend that you archive these files to a separate disk, CD-R, or separate computer. Otherwise you will lose this data in the event of a severe hard disk failure.

Restore the 3D database
You may need to restore the last database backup for example after a false manipulation when importing data. To do that, select [Restore 3D Database] from the [File] menu:
The following dialog is opened:
If you are sure, click OK.
IMPORTANT
The restore function replaces the current database by the last one which have been saved. In certain cases, editing the base and deleting data can be enough to correct a mistake during an import.
Compact the 3D database
If the database is very voluminous, it is necessary to compact the database to accelerate the operations on it.
This function modifies not at all the type of file and the useful data which are imported but deletes all unusable data.
The database should be compacted after several imports of data or after a PBG's long use.
Note: It is not useful to compact the database for every data saving. It takes more or less of time following the number of data to compact the database.
To launch the compact database function you have to click on the [Compact] button from the "Manage 3D database" dialog box.
Then a dialog box with the warning about the duration to compact the 3D database appears.
Click on Ok to validate.
The bar of progress appears and informs you about the duration.

Repair the 3D database
MaxSea verify the 3D database at the first run and every time when a new data is read.
A warning appears each time when MaxSea detected a wrong format value in the current 3D database zone. MaxSea proposes to repair your 3D database.
To repair your 3D database select [Manage 3D database…] from [file] menu and then click on the "Repair" button.
Note: in case MaxSea has detected no wrong value and the repair function has been selected, a message appears and warns you before launching the process.
Change your 3D database password
You have the option of changing your 3D database password.
Click on the [Change] button from "Manage your 3D database" window and the following dialog box appears:
Enter your old password and the new one and click on OK.
Export 3D database
Export a 3D database
You can export data from a database. It allows you by import of these data (type of file: *.XYZ), to share your data with the other users or to merge data of several databases.
MaxSea Operator Manual version 12.6
Caution: MaxSea ONLY exports the "UserData" . The exported file is encrypted and will only be available with MaxSea software.
, select the function [Export the database 3D] from the [file] menu.
Then a dialogue box appears:
Choose the type of data which has to be exported (by default the Depth is selected)
Note: if the database contains Roughness (E1) or Hardness (E2) information, you can also export these data by selecting the corresponding item from the pop-up.
Then if need be, enter the password and click on OK to validate.
Note: you can protect exported data by password since the menu
[Manage the 3D database] from the [file] menu
• Select on the chart with the Select tool in the Rectangle mode the data zone of which you want to export.
Note: by default during the opening of this window the preset zone corresponds to the zone displayed on the screen.

Archived 3D Database
What means archived database?
It is not especially necessary to confuse the notion of database Backup and the notion of archived database
The Backup is only a working copy. So if during a tide the data which you recorded are not correct, you can decide not to keep them. To do so, you must restore the database previously Backed-up so as to be able to return on an clean database by ignoring the last acquisitions.
The archives is a help copy of your data base in case having problems on your hard disk or on your PC. The backup will be made rather on an external support such as an external Hard disk or a CD-ROM. You can keep a copy of your database in a sure place and possibly reload it in case of important problem.
Caution : please, do not store your Database archives on same hard disk as the active database because you risk to saturate the hard disk pointlessly. Furthermore in case of "crash" of your hard disk you would lose all your work.
Establish an Archive
To archive your database you must :
Protect your Database if necessary, make a backup of it (3D Backup by default) on an external support (the copy process depends on the type of support you will use : CD, Hard disk)

2D/3D Function Overview
The software 2D/3D module displays bathy data in the current window.
In this section, you will learn how to use 3D charts and the 3D window's easy-to-use interface.
To obtain the best 3D performance and detail, the minimum hardware configuration required is : 128Mb RAM with an 8Mb RAM 3D video card.

3D Display Modes
4 display modes are available:
•
"Normal Scene" mode: is the exact representation of the current chart window in 3 dimensions.
•
"Extended" mode: extend the scene as far as the horizon. However, the chart will not cover all the
window and the extended parts will appear in gray color.
•
" Sea Surface" mode: is an extended scene with a visualization of the sea surface. This mode is useful
to obtain a view of the sea level in the far parts of the scene, where the charts cannot be displayed.
•
"Cube" Mode: this mode is strongly recommended to view the general configuration of the undersea
relief . This representation allows you to view the section of the relief inside a cube which you can manipulate as you wish.
To change the Display mode, select it from the Display mode pop-up located in the high left corner of the 3D Window :
