Theme 4 Cancer of the colon and rectum

 

Background

Cancer of the colon takes 4th place among malignant tumors and 2 among tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, reaching 20.2 cases per 100,000 population. The incidence of cancer varies in different anatomical regions of the colon. Up to 60% of colon cancer is localized in 2 parts: caecum and sigmoid colon. In recent decades there is a noticeable increase in the absolute number of patients with malignant tumors of this localization. Despite some advances in diagnosis, as ever, remains a high percentage of running (80-90%) and complications (60%) forms its course. Early forms of colon cancer are not pathognomonic symptoms, and therefore required oncological alertness and careful clinical supervision of patients with precancerous diseases of the colon.

Among malignant tumors of the colon CCA would lyve place is colorectal cancer (CRC). The incidence of CRC in the United States is 17.7 cases per 100,000 population, UK - 16.7; Canada - 14.1; Russia and Ukraine - 12.6. Men and women alike often ill, about 65% for the population aged over 60 years.

 

 

Overall objective: to be able to diagnose and treat tumors of the colon and rectum.

 

Specific goals

Be able to:

1. On the basis of complaints, anamnesis, objective research, to identify the main syndromes of colon cancer and rectal cancer, put a preliminary diagnosis.

2. Appoint additional examination methods and evaluate their data

3. Conduct differential diagnostics, to put the final diagnosis.

4. Appoint treatment

5. To carry out rehabilitation and preventive measures

 

Contents of training

 

Theoretical questions to topics that students should learn:

1. Clinical symptoms of cancer of the colon and rectum (ROK).

2. Diagnosis ROCK.

3. Classification ROCK.

4. Question metastasis

5. Epidemiology of cancer of the colon and rectum, morbidity and mortality in cancer of the colon and rectum etiological factors and Precancer disease pathogenesis.

6. Principles and treatment in ROK, and long-term results of treatment, diagnosis and treatment of recurrences and metastases.

7. Predisposing factors and precancerous conditions, prevention.

8. Examination of disability, prognosis, rehabilitation patients
