KOЛИЗЕЙ
Амфитеатр Флавиев, обычно называемый Колизеем, уже много
веков является символом величия и могущества Рима, a также одним из наиболее знаменитых памятников древности во всем мире. Строительство Колизея было начато в 72 г. н.э., его архитектор неизвестен, но некоторые отождествляли его с архитектором Рабирием, построившим Дворец Домициана. Амфитеатр, являющийся самым большим памятником римской цивилизации, имеет эллиптическую форму 188 x 156 метров и высоту 57 метров; внешняя чeчетырехэтажная структура полностью из травертина; первые три яруса состоят из 80 стрельчатых арок, расположенных в канонической последовательности дорического, ионического и коринфского стилей, а четвертый, с небольшими проемами, декорирован пилястрами.
