I am a student of the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design
Hi, my name is Anna Kovalchuk. I am from Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. I am seventeen years old and my birthday is on August 2nd. Now I'm a first-year student at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. As creating new patterns of clothes is my cup of tea, I'm going to work as a clothes designer for a fashion design studio. I want to continue my family tradition of working in the field of light industry.
My school was over in June and in July there were entrance exams to the university. My exams were in drawing, painting, special composition, Ukrainian and literature. I was lucky to pass all of them.
Students of our university are future specialists in the fields of clothing, footwear and information technologies, various branches of design as well as automation, engineering mechanics, microelectronics, metrology, electrical mechanics. They also study chemical technologies and economics.
Now when I am a university student, I am busy twenty-four hours a day - seven days a week. I attend classes every day, but Sunday is my day-off. Our classes begin at 8.30 a.m. and are over at 2.40 p.m. Every day I am at lectures, laboratory and practical classes on various subjects. After classes I am busy with my hometasks which are numerous. My groupmates and I often visit our university library, reading halls and laboratories where we are able to do our hometasks, to make reports and projects. We also use the Internet. I have got many friends from many Kyiv universities. From time to time we see each other on Sundays at somebody's place. We are still friends but we are very busy at our universities. There are also some of my former classmates who study abroad. During our last school year three of them got educational grants to study at foreign universities and colleges. For example, my former deskmate Dasha Pavlova, is a student at Pont Aven School of Contemporary Art in Brittany, France. She studies arts there. The other classmate of mine, Vadym Kruglov, attends King's College in London. He is an electronics student. One more classmate of mine, Dmytro Klimenko, studies engineering mechanics at Illinois University of Carbondale, the USA. All of them are also very busy, but we are on-line - we communicate via the Internet.
Nevertheless I am very busy with my university; there are a lot of things to do after classes. As for me, I am fond of dancing: that's why I go to the dancing club twice a week, but my training does not take much time. Sometimes I help my Mom to prepare her fashion shows. Besides, I've got a dream to learn French.
I like my study at the university. It is very different from school. It is sometimes difficult and I want to leave it all, but I feel no regret about my decision to enter this university. I am more serious and responsible now. There are many exams and much serious work in the future, but I am ready to overcome it all.

My family
As you know, I'm Ann Kovalchuk, and I'm a first-year student at the Kyiv National University of Technologies and Design. Now I'm glad to introduce my family to you.
We are a family of five. We think we are a large and friendly family. So, we are happy to be living together and getting on all right.
To begin with, I'm going to talk about my grandmother on my mother's side. My granny is the eldest person in our family. Her name is Victoria, and she is seventy. She is retired now, but she used to work as an English teacher. I must admit, she's a very understanding person and there is no such problem as 'generation gap' between us. She helps my parents and me in all our daily routine. Nevertheless, she is seventy, she is very lively and active.
My father is Vadym. He is forty-five. He is a footwear designer for the Ukrainian-Italian joint venture. He is always busy, and he is sometimes away on business trips to many cities in Ukraine and abroad. My father spends all his time and efforts trying to solve the problems of Ukrainian shoe-making industry.
My mother's name is Helen. She is two years younger than my father. She is a very talented clothes designer. It was my mother who taught me how to make beautiful dresses, skirts, trousers, jackets and so on. She has been a designer for eighteen years
since she graduated from the Kyiv Technological Institute of Light Industry. My mother is acquainted with many famous Ukrainian and some foreign designers and couturiers. They are Lilia Pustovit, Olexander Gapchuk, Mykhailo Voronin, Sonya Rickel, J-P Gaultier. My mother has got a dream to create a Fashion House and work there with me and other young designers and graduates from the university. I help her dream come true.
And finally a few words about my elder brother, Peter. He is three years senior to me. He is keen on computers and programming. So, they are his cup of tea. Peter is also a student of my university. If he has some free time, he always helps me with my studies. Though we are very different, we have much in common, we have common interests, friends and so on. He is my best friend.

have breakfast (lunch, dinner) – снідати (обідати, вечеряти) have coffee (tea) – пити каву (чай)
have a shower (a bath) – приймати душ (ванну) have a good time – гарно проводити час
have to – вимушений щось робити
I do not want to go there, but I have to. - Я не хочу туди йти, але мушу.
