Іменник Утворення множини іменників

Іменники в англійській мові поділяються на злічувані (countable nouns) і незлічувані (uncountable nouns).

Злічувані іменники означають предмети, які можна полічити: a chair стілець, an engineer інженер, a question запитання

Незлічувані іменники — це назви речовин і багатьох абстрактних понять, які не піддаються лічбі: water вода, milk молоко, freedom свобода, friendship дружба та ін.

Злічувані іменники вживаються в однині (the singular) і множині (the plural). Незлічувані іменники множини не мають.

Більшість іменників у англійській мові утворюють множину додаванням до форми однини закінчення -s, - es, закінчення вимовляється:

[s] — після глухих приголосних, крім [s], [∫], [t]:

a lamp лампа — lamps [læmps]

a lake озеро — lakes [leıks]

[z] — після голосних і дзвінких приголосних крім [z], [3], [d3]:

a train поїзд — trains [traınz]

a name ім'я — names [neımz]

a sea море — seas [si:z]

[iz] — після звуків [s], [z], [∫], [t∫],[3], [d3]:

a place місце — places [pleısız]

a rose троянда — roses ['rouzızl

a wish бажання — wishes ['wı∫ız]

a bench лава — benches ['bent∫ız]

a garage гараж — garages ['g æra:3ız]
