INTRODUCTION
This guide is the result of joint work of the Department of Social Work,
Pedagogy and Psychology (Kazan National Research Technological
University, Russia) and the teaching and research staff of the Faculty of
Political Science and Sociology (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona,
Spain).
The teaching manual is designed for Master of Social Work in
Industry. It contains two parts. Part I presents the aims and objectives of the
course "Labour Migration Management "; competences to be developed in
the students as the result of the course; topics of lectures and seminars,
themes of reports and exam questions. Finally, this part includes the
description of active learning methods used in the teaching of the module, as
well as evaluation tools and criteria that allows controlling the knowledge
acquired by students.
Part II presents the research carried out by our Spanish colleagues from
Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The selected publications are all highly
relevant to the topic of labour migration management and are recommended
for reading by the students pursuing a Master in Social Work in Industry,
while may also be of interest to specialists of Social Work. Part II includes,
apart from articles, some editorials and book reviews. Editorials were
included in this volume as they introduce the reader to the situations in
specific European countries, like Denmark, Portugal or Norway. This
overview is thought to stimulate students’ interest and allow them to
undertake further research. We also aimed to acquaint the reader with some
benchmarking books necessary for the course on migration policy in Europe.
The format of this guide does not allow enough space to include the full text
of the books, so we limited ourselves to book reviews.
Considerable attention in Part II is given to the European immigration
control and solutions for the immigrants’ integration as public policies. Key
factors that shape attitudes towards immigration are considered by Antonio
Martín Artiles and Oscar Molina in the article "Crisis, economic uncertainty
and union members’ attitudes towards immigration in Europe".The
specificity of status of immigrant women in paid domestic service in Spain
and Italy is analysed by Sónia Parella Rubio.
While discussing current international migration it is impossible to
disregard the transnational factor. Within the framework based on such
4

linkages, immigrants, in their daily activities, develop new experiences and
new fields of social relations. Examination of these transnational practices
enables researchers to move beyond the conventional theoretical
approximations. This idea is developed by Sònia Parella and Leonardo
Cavalcanti in the article "New challenges of transnationalism in the study of
migration".
All the texts presented in this guide were used in accordance with
Amendment to the Specific Exchange Agreement for Teaching and Research
Staff between the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Kazan National
Research Technological University for the academic year 2013-2014.
